Anyone worked out a way of un-denting dented tweeter domes? I'm guessing not and it's not the end of the world either way....but have just picked up a pair of 'vintage' Kef Cadenza's :Quad: for a workshop system and one of the T27's has been pushed in.

Am (hopefully) picking up a Marantz 2252 receiver tomorrow to go with them for a cuddly 70's retro setup for my dusty old workshop :D .

"Repairing dented domes is like making love to a beautiful woman...", as a friend of mine would oft say.... Honestly: place your mouth over the dome and suck gently - the dome will generally pop back into shape ( I kid you not!)

That doesn't sound like making love to a beautiful woman to me! But, that kind of malarky aside, I'll give it a go (after I've given it a clean methinks, it's kinda manky). If that doesn't work it's onto the blutak...:)

    Cheers for the suggestions.

a technique that works well.. although not on metal domed tweeters.

i did this on a pair of dynaudios (which use silk domes) and it pulled right out perfectly. Job done :)

Bloody hell, it worked! Nice one, job done, thanks Neil (and all others, but especially Neil).

Of course my other half thought it was hilarious, me snogging a speaker; she already thought I had an unnatural obsession with hifi, and this has NOT helped, ha ha.

Yeah - thought twice about mentioning this on ZG (always up for a laugh, these guys...) but it was commonly done in a 2nd hand emporium I helped out in for a while - along with much other malarky to fleece our customers - sorry - I meant along with much other valuable restoration and servicing to add value to the finest pre-owed HIFI!
    Glad to be of help!

With a fabric or plastic dome as used in the old KEF you can also use a sharp sewing needle to gently lift out the dent. Just be very gentle with it. The tiny mark or hole left is nothing to worry about.

Glad to hear it's worked - i was also going to suggest sucking the nipple (sorry tweeter cone) gently. Has worked for me. However, sometimes you have to also give the speaker driver a glass of fine wine and some belgium chocolates first, also try playing a Walrus of Love track too - that usually does the trick.
