    yeah, cheers!

...however, I'm having trouble paying for it...when I insert my billing details and click on the next button I get the following error -
    "We're Sorry.
You have encountered a product restriction problem. One or more of the items you've selected has been excluded from being purchased in your region.
If you still wish to purchase this item, please contact the software manufacturer to obtain purchase details.
    (Error Number: 30033015 - 0)"

despite the fact that the seller is based in the uk and delivers to the uk and I live in county durham / weardale..!

I've e-mailed them several times but haven't heard anything back and they stipulate that you have to buy it within 24 hours, but after 19 hours they still haven't replied to my e-mails...I must have sent about 13!!

As I started this thread I'll add that I finally got round to ordering myself a Nikon Coolpix 4600 today. Not the greatest camera available by a long way, but will hopefully meet my simple needs without costing the earth. Time will tell...

I've managed to order my camera too - I don't know if the problem was their (application error), or mine (browser issue?) - but I used a different PC and it worked fine...!!

Glad you're sorted Mr. cat. Seems that quite a few people have some issues with their software, if you read the feedback. When the canon outlet first came on the scene everyone thought it was a scam... a few lucky people picked up EOS 1Ds for £3k!

Bought a Fuji FinePix S5500 about a month ago. 4 megapixel, but 10x optical zoom. Very pleased with it, as it gives you the flexability of going all 'manual' mode or totally automatic. RRP is £249.99 from Jessops, but got it down to £204 from them, after showing them that dabs.com sell it for £199.99.

yeah, thanks - I did initially think it may have been a scam as the error occured after I'd inserted my bank details (I also used a debit card!) - but I checked the recent feedbank and all seemed ok...just their communications skills leave a lot to be desired... :D

That's been the case from the outset I'm afraid. So much so that ebay suspended their account when it was first thought to be a scam.

I use Lexar Pro cards and I've never had a problem. I'm told the Scandisc Ultras are good too.

Never heard of them. Check out the speed list on Rob Galbraith's site. Also be aware that there have been some issues with Lexar cards with canon cameras (it seems to be on Lexar's side), although I don't believe the G5 has been affected. I use a Sandisk Ultra II 2GB which seems fine. I've also got a 128MB Danelec that's been fine, and a 256MB Crucial that's died (but is covered under warranty, so when I get around to it that will be replaced).

I haven't managed to buy one yet - I'm off to ireland tomorrow and won't have time to get one sorted by then anyway, so I'm just gonna take my trusty finepix a201 and get one when I get back...

but I'm really impressed with the camera so far...was reading through the 185 page manual last night..!

Because I bought my 20D in the USA (a damn sight cheaper than it was here) it came with two manuals... one in english, one in spanish.

the thing that amazed me was when I was adjusting the shutter speeds and having the camera pointing at the TV....when it was on a fast speed, the image was clear, but when it was slow I could see the bars moving up....! simple things pleasing simple minds and all that...!

    Couple of daft questions:
Does anyone find it costs more than standard 35mm, wot with memory cards and expensive batteries?
Do batteries and memory last for an annoyingly short time?

And does anyone actually print their pictures? If so, how?
Are home photo printers anywhere near the quality of 35mm or do you have to go to a professional? And if so, does it mean burning your photo onto a cd to take to the printer?

    1) No, it costs less because you don't have to print the rubbish ones and you don't get stuff destroyed by the D&P people.

    2) Battery on my 20D lasts. And lasts. And lasts. I charged up both of the battery packs when I got the camera in the USA. I am still on the first pack, having taken around 300 photos on it so far. It's expected to last 700-1000 shots. The memory card I have will take about 200 images in RAW (uncompressed full-size output) + Medium JPG mode on 2GB.

    3) My dad prints his better pictures on a Canon i9950 printer. The output is every bit as good as a lab print and I will be buying the smaller (A4 vs A3+) iP8500 model. Overall output quality is better because of the far better high-ISO performance of digital (slr at least) compared to film.

    4) You can take images to a minilab. Most will accept CDs, CompactFlash, Smartmedia, SD, MMC, etc

on my old camera (Fuljifilm finepix a201) which I had since 2002 - I've taken over 7000 pictures using the same set of 3 smartmedia cards and 2 sets of batterys - so, I've no complaints there...

I don't print that many, but, I'm able to takes loads of pictures, I see it almost like a digital diary of life - digi photos, and e-mails....the plan is to look back on them when I'm old and senile...!! ;)

I normally select the images I want to get printed and put them on a CD and take them to a minilab. There is a decent one near me that uses Fuji kit. They charge £5 for 50 6x4 prints. I had 5 8x6 prints done the other day at a cost of £1.20 each. Not bad at all, as I rarely print photographs - they were just some to send off to my grandma.

As for batteries, my FinePix S5500 uses 4x AAs. I think my rechargables are 1400m/ah (can't remember off hand), but they last for the duration of filling up a 256MB XD card and some. The use of AAs makes it far easier, in the sense that if your rechargables have run low, you can usually find somewhere that stocks AA alkalines.
