Do you believe that it is possible for you to imagine sonic differences?

Please answer 'yes' if you do believe this. If you think it is possible that differences you hear might not really exist but you just imagine them.

Please answer 'no' if you do not belive this. In other words, you believe/think/know that any difference you hear must be real. It must exist externally.

Please answer 'don't know' if you are just not sure and just do not kniow.

    Yes, of course.

Just a simple story: very recently I decided to try if my Sennheiser HD280 headphones could use a little treble. So I turned the treble knob of my amp to '+1' position. I clearly preferred the new setting (more sparkle and detail, players slightly closer in the soundstage, the usual stuff...) until I noticed that the phones were not connected to the amp at all, but to my computer.

    Regards,

    L.

there are times when this forum resembles the Protestant Churches or the Communist movement - small differences inflate to status of doctrine and opportunity for sects and breakaway Wee Frees and Fourth Internationalists.

we often believe that which we want to believe - even if that is not convenient!

What a naff poll, if i believe it is possible that someone can imagine a difference, does that mean there is no actual difference?

    2/10, must try harder.

Of course you can image things but not constantly. You will not see the same fata morgana twice (I think ?)

I voted no just because there was only one vote for no before I voted, and it seemed a bit lonely. Yes, I imagine sonic differences....or do I?

Sometimes I can imagine I can dance as well, when I've had a drink or two. But not with Morgan le Fay, I think.

hifi is suspension of disbelief, so we shouldn'y be surprised. as indicated, its not just a question of whether, but how consistently.

    Disagree,

Do you think it's possible using the internet to imagine you have friends?

Yes, yes. Very good, Stereo Mic. You are very witty.

So 90% of people belive it is possible to imagine sonic differences. Fancy that.

Well http://zerogain.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9871&page=1&pp=15 is a perfect example.

What is the explanation for people claiming such things? Imagination seems plausible (likely?). And a very large majority of those who voted believe they themselves are susceptible to imagining differences .

I'm not even going to imagine I voted, or did I imagine I imagined I voted.

mind you I didn't imagine you didn't answer my question on the other thread.

So why didn't you take up my offer .........It still stands.

If you have forgotten....I will send you "no strings" an RCA to RCA stereo IC [type 1 0.2mm 4n silver Twisted pair approx 80cm], for you to decide if cables make no difference, I'll even stand the postage to you. If you don't like it/ can't hear the difference, just send it back to me. PM me if you want to take up the offer.

Now how can you turn that down ..............unless
