Well here's what to do. Go down to your friendly local IKEA and avail yourself of some tasty LACK side tables. I got some in Beech veneer for only £12 each. Bargain!

Take two LACK tables and a few handtools...

Add a steady hand and lots of patience, eh voila! ...

Note the tasteful solid pine speaker stands :D

Fear not! A pair of proper stands are on order

Indeed, you seem to be crazily equipped for the task of putting an Ikea table together.

It's quite a cheap option indeed, but imho it looks kinda odd too.

I once played with the thought of building my own rack from an Ikea Lack. (got one in light oak)
But,...to me they are/look way too deep. (55cm)
My amp & CD-player are only 28cm deep.

That's why I'm using an Ikea Corras:
(which will cost even less than 2 Lack's :MILD: )

    Greetings from Holland,

Neat :) Everytime I go for the fitted option I always change something and none of it fits on the rack anymore so mine is too big- its 401 sized so pretty huge. Looks a bit funny without a 401 on it though. I wish Ikea delivered, it miles from here, despite the main distribution centre being in town

'Ere! You lot are pulling my leg

The legs were too long and it did look very odd. The small saw was used to neatly start the cut on all four sides of the leg. The larger saw was then used to finish the job. It would have taken all day with the small saw alone and would have looked crap with the big saw alone :p

For a more hi-tech look, one could make the legs a bit shorter still and add spikes ;)

As for CORRAS, it's only available in birch. I needed beech to match everything else in the room

I'm really pleased with it. And only £24 plus petrol plus elbow grease :D

    I understand your point, Chris.
If Ikea made a Corras in light-oak, just as they do with the Lack, it would've suit my taste/room much better.

What I found odd looking about the Lack is not the lenght of the legs, but more that it's completely square.
(if it was more wider than deep, it probably would look better, imho)

    regards,

    :D

I'm sticking with phase 2 for now, but I did buy three tables just in case I want to expand later.

The pine chests under the speakers are temporary. They don't normally live in the lounge. Trust me, the rest is beech ;)

I have to say the system sounds no better and no worse than it did on Optimum or Quadraspire :)

Yeah like the lack, looks a neat job :MILD:

I bought myself an IKEA OPPLI yesterday. They are very cheap new, but I managed to get a 2nd hand one for £20! It looks as good as new, and all my kit fits on it just nicely. :)

Errm, not sure what prompted that, I have enough pine bedroom furniture already. Mine is Waverley by Hygena and it's way better than anything I saw at Durham Pine - and cheaper too :)

great look kit......did you think of spikes ?

I've seen a number of web sites that expound the lack...what did it replace and are you happy with the performance ?

My second system sits in a Corras Rack, i tried my TT on it once and wow! it really made a difference to the sound.. a good difference. Off to Ikea soon for another one. I am selling my Audiophool rack used in the main system.
