how many calories you'd have to eat in order to gain 1/2 a stone (3.18 kg)? - assuming no real excersise and a bmr of 1500 kcal.

    cheers

I don't if it helps but I was told by a colleague (who had to lose weight because he's diabetic) that to lose one pound you need to burn off just over 3000Kcal.

    Ive heard 3.5K calories.
Your capability to burn calories during rest largely depends on your lean muscle mass. - hit those weights and dont worry about what the scales are telling you (muscle is 3 times heavier than fat so you may well gain weight whilst losing fat).

    lamboy,
i can usually eat about 1500 kcal and loose weight - between 1500 and 2000 kcal and i 'maintain' and any more and i gain. i want to relax over christmas but i don;t want to go too far. from the above i'm guessing i can probably eat about 5000 kcal per day and do an hours walk / jog and not put on much more than 1/2 a stone during my christmas cheat. my body fat is 29% (from 43% this time last year).
    cheers

Superb! Your body will enjoy the respite from the weight loss - plus the extra food will give your metabolism a boost.

    sir galahad,
i've been living on roughly 1500 kcal with 20g of carbs per day for the past year. i usually do a 2 mile walk, a 10 minute (60%, 90% HIIT) static bike ride and an assortment of weights / pushups / situps / etc. every day. lately this has tailed off but i have been lugging boxes about up and down stairs nearly every day.
    this was me in june:

    Exactly!

Scales have their place, but the mirror is perhaps a better way of telling.

Your pic's show you're obviously heading in the right direction mate!

Keep up the work in the new year :)
