 You'll soon see why the title is so put,

As a bit of an experiment, what proportion of your annual income does the (new price) cost of your system represent, to include all cdp/amp/spkr/cable combinations. Probably not fair to include renovations to the listening room as this is a bit subject to where, and how you live. Go on, think it through, I bet there wil be a few raised eyebrows at this one!

I'll start you off with mine, 10%, quite modest I expect.....

Mine's about 30% and still counting! SWMBO does not care as long as it sounds good and does not affect the lounge layout too much. ;)

I am the first at over 100%!!

This is because I am 17 so my income is not up to much being un-employed and spending every penny for about 6 years on my Hi-Fi.. My system is still only worth about £6K

    Tenson,
Stroll on, that's a hell of a figure at your age! I hope the band takes off so you can continue the upgrade path!

Mine's also modest (for the moment): up to 35% at most. But let me just lay my hands on that Gryphon system I'm dying to have! The figure's going to skyrocket then ;-))

It's currently at 6%, (I incorrectly calculated as 11% but I can't change my vote now...)

but that could either mean three things:

    - I have a cheap system
    - Or I earn a bit, but don't really spend what I should. (I wish!!)
    - Or I have a big fat mortgage that I don't like paying off, which means not enough for hifi :(

I would like to take it to 11% one day with a new pre/pwr and CDP. But that overseas holiday is beckoning...

Maybe I'll show the wife this poll that most people spend between 10-30% ??? :D

What happens if we add the wife's salary into the equation? :D

(that would depend if you had a joint bank a/c right?) :MILD:

Perhaps my wife is on another forum discussing what percentage of her income she spends on shoes/wardrobe? :D

(A lot more than what I spend on hifi!)

It amazes me how we get percentages of less than zero and more than 100%

No idea on mine, but I guess it's around 20% these days

Umm, by dint of people having a stereo that costs more than a years wage? Seems perfectly logical to me.

Thanks Rewster, we are recording the new album at the moment so with a little luck (okay a lot) I will be a millionaire this time next year! :) The new material is hugely better than what is on the website from the last attempt.

Hmm. Around 50-60%... Scary that, but not so much when you consider how little money I make doing temp work. :( Maybe one day I'll find myself a real job...

The formula would be (Cost of HiFi/Annual Salary) * 100

Hence, if Cost of HiFi = -500, Salary = 25000, the formula would be
    (-500/25000) * 100 = -2%

    Quad Erat Demonstratum
