Can the quality actually be called Hi-Fi ? I seemed to have missed this bit of crucial info.
    Anyone help ?

I hope it`s inferior otherwise I`m going to have to buy even more kit.

What you download is generally crap quality. Apple's iTunes store stuff is 128kbps which is nowhere near Hi-Fi quality. However, if you rip your own CDs to an iPod at a decent bit-rate or use Apple's lossless encoding then the quality is very good indeed.

Nogbad, it's all about convenience over quality.

I have just started ripping my CDs to the PC hard drive using Windows Media Player. I think I'll listen to more music as a result simply because it's there rather than swapping CDs.

I've got to say I'm tempted to give MiniDisc the elbow in favour of a hard disc portable. The Apple won't do for me because it only records from PC. The Philips one has a line input so I can record from vinyl could, and it looks a bit more grown up too ;)

    Regards
