Trouble is, it's only the shield of a TBM - the rest of the machine to make it work (machinery, soil removal, tunnel wall prefab section placing machine) is about a kilometere long. If anyone want s afree one, the other one is permanently entombed in the Channel bed (it was too expensive to remove, so they drove it into the wall). I knew the guy who designed the grout to go between the prefab sections - it had to withstand water coming through with a force normally associated with fire hoses (the Channel bed is chalk marl and highly fractured). An amazing achievement.

Looks a bit silly. The winning bid was entered way before closing time, so it is likely this was a spoof.

I don't think it is a spoof Markus - read the BBC News article I linked above. They had hundreds of bogus bids (reaching over GBP 10 million at one stage) so many bids were cancelled. In the end only pre-vetted bidders were allowed to bid (as happened with the recent Mig 29 sale on eBay). The money went to charity.

God only knows what the winning bidder is going to do with it though  .

RdS styles himself as ZeroGain's biggest bore - this beats him handsomely!
