You have to make sure that you're cut out to be a driving instructor. I once knew a guy who freaked out when other people drove him around. He obviously wouldn't be any good.

I've heard that these driving instructor courses cost thousands of pounds. There is no point spending that sort of cash unless you really think you've got a good chance of making a success of it.

This is where these companies make all their money. So all they are interested in is getting large numbers of people through their course.

Funny you should say that (about exagerating the checks).

I had my first test a MOnth or so ago. I didn't have any minors but failed on not checking my blind spot after having to "pull in behind a parked car then MOve off when safe". I knew straight away I'd done it so tried to over do it with observation for the rest of the test.

I wasn't particularly confident going into that test and wouldn't have been suprised to fail (dress rehearsal), but for it to have gone so well, it was gutting to blow it on something as daft as not looking over my shoulder for half a second.

Not overly confident about next week either. Shall see how it goes on the day....

I've had bad experiences with driving tests...I was nervous - but done enough (or so I thought) to pass...
one mistake was to leave a very big roundabout at a fraction of a second after the car leaving the junction at the right of me (despite him being 50 foot away!) - and i failed because of that...

I did my tests at bishop auckland and one female examiner - I said hello to her and she just ignored me...
another one - I was using my ex's car and had just out in an extra interior mirror and warned the exmainer that he may need to adjust it - initially he thought i was pointing to the passenger side wing mirror and blared back at me - 'thats for your prupose and not mine!' to which I replied 'I meant the interior mirror' and explined that it had just been put up and he told me that it was upto him to worry and not me!

and another thing...they deny having a quota for pass rates yeah..?
then you'd think that if people were to pass on their own merits then maybe there'd be a bit of variation on the pass rates..?
    http://www.dsa.gov.uk/Form.asp?id=SXA101-A77FEA74

    the car pass rates -
    2003/4 - 43%
    2004/5 - 42%
    2005/6 - 43%

    :(
