...and they wonder 1/ why people don't want to give up cars, 2/ that they can rip the motorist off as much as they want for new car prices+vat, tax, insurance vat, parts vat, servicing vat, mot vat, camera fines, parking fines, parking charges, petrol tax .. rant rant rant

and we will pay it no matter what, we need as a nation to learn from our french friends and not to take bullshit from the people elected to do our bidding who think they have a god given right to rule us and dictate what goes, not work for us...which is their solemn sworn duty...

AT...any car that crashed at 70 mph wouldn't give a great deal of protection...and, if you hit another, that's a combined of 140 mph and you are well dead!!

it would be quicker for me to get to Salford by car, it takes 20 minutes, 40 minutes by bus. However the journey is a horrible one by car, and it is very difficult to park, plus you have to pay £2.50 a day. It costs me £35 a month on the bus and I get any bus in Greater Manchester with that. I can go as far as Stockport to Wigan, or Altrincham to Oldham for example.

For the city centre you would be mad to drive, it costs somthing like £3 per hour to park if you can find a space, you have to sit in traffic for ages. On the bus it takes 20-25 minutes and there is no parking worries and there is much less traffic due to bus lanes.

When I get a job I just hope I can get one that is accessable by public transport, which really limits me to Manchester city centre or Stockport although I can easily get to loads of other places by bus.

My dad used to spend about £3000 on the car, its more like £2500 PA now though. £3000 is currently what I am living!

I can't realistically use public transport either (but then I don't HAVE to live where I do!).

My journey to work from Bracknell to Slough is 11 miles. For anyone that knows, the train is not a direct route - you have to go to Reading first and change. I did it once and the overall journey (door-to-door) took over 2 hours!

The bus isn't a realistic option either I think I would have to get a bus to Windsor and change and I've no idea how long that would take. The whole journey by car takes around 20 mins so I'm not likely to make the switch anytime soon!

Driving costs me a fortune each year, but I enjoy it all the more now I've bought a car with decent performance (although it now costs me a lot more per year than before!).
