That old £600-£700 speaker search thread is closed now but I just spotted a nice pair of as new condition Spendor SP1/2's complete with Atacama stands for £800:

Okay, slightly over budget but supposed to be fantastic speakers and, I should imagine, getting close to £2K new.

Only downside I can see is that they're in rosewood but that's me.

I appreciate it Matt, but I've settled on a pair of ATC Active 20s now. :) I decided I couldn't live without the active ATC "sound" (or lack thereof), and I reckon the 20s should give me the extra weight and dynamic freedom I'm looking for. And if they don't I may be able to sell them on and get a pair of secondhand Active 50s if I'm really lucky......

Blimey, those do look enticing! I would definitely consider them except that the way I'm doing the upgrade now is by swapping my existing kit for the new Active 20s, and the dealer with whom I've agreed to do this isn't able to front cash instead of the swap... D'oh!
