An amp gathers a lot of dust with years (unless, like an old Exposure it has no ventilation holes). Does it affect the sound/performance in any way?

No, as long as it doesn't affect the efficiency of the heatsinking.

What causes contacts to need cleaning is it general oxidation? My amp badly needs a good dose of isopronal in the potenemetres(sp).

Sometimes it sounds pretty crap and when it does if you turn source direct off it goes mono. When it sounds crap its still in stereo but the soundstage appears lost. When I get time I shall have to take it apart and give it a good clean inside if that does not fix the problem an engineer may need to fix it.

i very soft paintbrush will move it.
be carefull though if you do decide to clean it, dont force anything.
personally though , if it isent broken , dont fix it.

I get enough hassle from SWMBA about dust on the outside. Don't even suggest that there might dust inside as well.

Having an old set of Krells here(KMA100s)and knowing about the problems with dust clogging the fans and cooling fins,I do vacuum the insides carefully once a year, and it's surprising how much crap accumulates elsewhere thanks to the airflow....all around the reservoir caps etc.
Certainly doesnt affect the sound, but the potential for overheating with fan cooled Class A amps can be considerable.

I would take the amp/component outside, remove the cover and use an air spray aerosol to blow the dust away. Not a compressor airline tho, to much pressure.
