the 10x4 has had its day:rolleyes:

I suppose the 10x5 is the natural choice to replace it with.

    Any other suggestions?

MM or MC? what output are you ideally wanting to match your phono stage?

Here is a good site for reading about carts.- http://www.needledoctor.com/

I quite like clearaudio MM carts - the aurum beta S was very good for the money I thought... some of these are around 10x4/5 prices..

Theres always Sideshowbobs german contact for 1/2 price ortofohns. You could look at a Kontrapunkt A like me, so long as your arm can take a heavy cart, or if budgets are tighter or you need a lighter cart, an MC15 II/MC30.

I used to have an MC15 II, and it was very good for the money.

well i quite liked the 10x4, high output MC around 2.5mV.
I would mind trying other MC carts but it would mean buying a stepup tx aswell witch would probably be out of budget at the mo.

How about one of the high output Denon MC's? I can't remember exactly what the model is(110?) but there's a few people over on pinkfish who swear by them. Possibly a bit cheaper than one of the Dynavectors too.

    Good luck with it.

VTA adjuster as apparently the 10x5 is slightly higher than the 10x4

If you can get hold of it, try the Denon DL-304 (I'm unsure if it is still in production) at £210 (?). I replaced my Dynavector 17D MkII Karat cart with the Denon, and the Denon is just as good, miles better bass, mid not quite as detailed, but it makes music just as well and is a better tracker. Plus it has a vinyl-friendly tracking force of just 1.2g - one of the best audio bargains ever IMO.
