A shame I haven't the money for it....

But Audio T are currently selling Denon DVD2800 mk II for £495, new down from £750. Yeah, it's been replaced with the universal 2900, but still a superbly good DVD player by all accounts I've come across, and surely worth a punt...

It's not a bad offer but times are changing and new players are appearing all the time. For example, Denon have now brought out the DVD2200 which does everything the 2900 does (inlcuding DVD-A, SACD and PAL & NTSC prog scan). It tips the scales at around £500 - I'd take that over the 2800 MKII.

It's also worth noting that, for people who aren't bothered by PAL progressive scan, you can still pick up Toshiba SD900e's (rrp £1300) for £499 from leconcepts. Cracking player, built like a tank - well reviewed at £1300 - bargain at £500.

On top of this there are other new players out/coming out including a decent looking "play everything" player from Marantz (DV6400) at £300 ish plus that very tasty looking new Pioneer 868 flagship player at £750 ish.
