i use amazon as i was too lazy to bother looking at the others. you could probably use the introductory offers from all the various places offering these to rent dvds for a year for virtually no money at all.

amazon's is fine. excellent selection, fast turn around, and normally i get what's at the top of my list. £8 for 4 dvds a month, you get 2 at a time and there are no deadlines. i did have £10 for 6 a month (3 a at a time) but found i didn't always have the time to watch more than 1 a week.

Blockbuster were pretty good when I tried them quick turnaround.
Screen select less so - didn't reply or sort problems (e.g. wrong disc sent - how does that happen!!?? Never got it replaced despite several mails), long turnarounds - over a week without a new film when I cancelled (& I was meant to have 3 at a time).
Lovefilm has a two month free promo (two films at a time) ..use code C92F-92387-8KA I think - haven't tried it so don't blame me etc!

I'm with Amazon as well - so far it's working fine...
Not sure what happens if films get lost in the post, though!

I used Amazon for a few months - until they took money and failed to supply DVDs.

Switched to LoveFilm, who've been OK so far. Unlike Amazon they don't impose a monthly limit (just keep sending them back, your agreement is how many you can have at any one time). They do send you trashy emails though.

One thing to watch for (as is so often these days) - there are more trading names than underlying suppliers.

Read the small print - I believe the practicality is that they believe what you tell them until it appears that you are making a habit of it.
