So, I've just got back online within the last half hour. Seems my MOdem got frazzled in the lightning last week.

While being offline an ebay listing ended, and I've just logged in to check how it went. The item was sold and I've recieved emails from paypal saying the item's been paid for but I need to upgrade to a business or premier account to accept the debit or credit card funded payment

I've only ever sold one thing before and I didn't need to do this.

Bit confused, but need to get this sorted asap as the items already been delayed in being sent due to not being able to get online.

tell me what I need to know please.........

You would not have needed to this in the past if the funds used to pay you were withdrawn from a bank account or received from another paypal user by the person sending the money on to you. However, in the latest transaction the money was loaded to paypal from a credit card and you must have a premier account in order to accept credit card payments.

Is this potentially dodgy? Is it going to cost me? Does my bum look big in this?

Not dodgy, but all paypal incoming payments will now cost you 3.4% + 20p (which they take from the money you get)

    and....yes

Ah well, I've accepted and it's took £1.25 from my £31 payment.

I don't sell much so not really bothered, but when you say all payments, is that even bank funded ones?

I believe so, but I'm not positive about that.

I always factor in paypal fees when selling on ebay to be on the safe side (I have a spreadsheet which calculates all of the fees if anyone wants a copy)

That would have happened regardless. Paypal charge everyone for being paid with paypal, and on the premier accounts is better value for money when the payments are larger.

There are no downsides so far as I can tell.

someone hacked into my e-bay account overnight and tried to sell some high end power amps - it's all sorted now as ebay had spotted it and removed the items before I came into work...

I guess it was one of those scams where you had to e-mail the buyer via a hotmail account...

but how would they be able to access my account tho..?

    hmmm....

I sent an email explaining the slight delay in postage and hoped they enjoyed the dvd's.

I sold them after buying them myself just a couple of weeks ago. They (lost season one), were listed as region 2, but turned out to be region 1, which wouldn't work on my girlfriends player.
I was offered a refund, but thought save the hassle and return postage costs, and possibly make a profit, so just listed them myself. I made sure to list them as region 1.

Reply to my email today about the slight delay in postage asking if possible to get a refund because..... they thought they were region 2! They've admited they shouild have read the listing carefully and have since noticed they're described as region 1.

Do I give them a refund and then relist them out of kindness?

    Or tell them nope?

    What ya think?

I'd just tell them to stick them back on ebay - no reason why you should have to go through all the hassle again if it wasn't your fault.

    They've probably copied/watched the DVD's by now.

You can refund via Paypal and claim some fees back from eBay if the buyer agrees to do a mutual end to the transaction, though you always lose the listing fee.

You will now be charge for receiving any payment via Paypal no matter how it is funded, AFAIK.

Mo you probably fell for a phishing scam. Never link to eBay via an email.

If eBay has sent you a genuine email you should goto your browser and goto eBay manually then any real messages from eBay will be in the messages part of 'my eBay'

If you are 100% certain you were not phished then you probably had a dumbarse password, you want at least 15 characters with numbers and capitals in.
