I'm sure everyone here believes in the existence and usefulness of measurements. Richard's point is surely related to whether specs and measurements provide any useful information for the consumer.

I think they do. For example I know my headphones behave very badly with high output impedance headphone amps. Therefore it is a waste of my time to try one at home that comes with say a 200 ohms impedance output.

As far as the classic list of specs go the only ones that usually matter are the physical measurements of the device.

I get that, my puzzlement was due to why would anyone would name a cat 'Pooky'.

It was because RD (I presume) had named the cat 'pooky', it doesn't fit with his online persona.

My cat is called 'stumpy' 'cos she only has half a tail!

I have to ask, why 'trex?

Ah well you have to be a fan of the cartoon strip Garfield. Now my cat looks and behaves like Garfield, but lots call their cats Garfield, especially if they are ginger toms, Persian or half Persian like Pooky, so it is a bit boring.

Anyway one day when Garfield was bored he was searching through Jon's (his owners) drawers for some mischief or something to do, and he found a beaten up old teddy bear that belonged to Jon as a boy. He was obviously unloved so Garfield adopted him, and *his* name is Pooky, and he is Garfields best friend and he talks to him. So Pooky is Garfields teddy bear.

    Sad isn't it :(

We have tended over time to have some very strange pets as my wife should have been a vet or something, she finds strange things and keeps them as pets (probably me as well :D). We once had two edible snails she found, first one was called Brian (obviously) second one was called Fucknose, as when she found it she said what shall we call it so I said **** knows! and it stuck.

Brian lived for years getting slower and slower until he finally stopped, must have been the longest living snail in history. Where as Fucknose died of an erection  They were always bonking :D and snails are amaphrodites, they have their sexual organs in their neck - female one side male the other, and they dance to "make love", it is quite beautifull in a strange way as they extend and curl their necks around each other to allign the important bits, then they both lay eggs. Well one day after a night of bonking Fucknose's male bit didn't go back into his neck and was trailing behind him, within a day he died :(

    Should have called it fuckneck.

I wonder what the effect of a metal enclosure would have on a snail.
