Anybody got any recommendations??? Thanks
jesus thats not much money. some lowther acusta's you could get em 300-400. theres a pair of acousta cabs on ebay for no money, but the drive units would cost a couple of hundred. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lowther-Acous...ryZ14993QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
depends how loud you want it to play. in a smaller room a pair of 89-90 dB/W speakers would suffice and at the price you are looking at something like JPW AP2's or AP3's would be ok. you'll need stands for these so £200 might cover all of it. Which 8W amp is it?
How's your German, Matthew? Over here in Germany, there's a pretty large undergound movement (so large that it's spilling over into magazines) advocating the use of Saba Greencones. They are broadband drivers from old Saba tube radios from the 50ies. Get a pair of those off ebay.de for 40-80 quid, put them into a reasonably large pair of cabinets (12 or 19 mm birch ply) or better still open baffles and you have a surprisingly decent speaker for naff all money. Sensitivity works out at around 92 dB. Or spend a bit more money on some Visaton, Ciare, Omnes Audio or Fostex drivers for broadly similar results.
good shout Markus. I hadn't thought of those, yet have a friend in Germany who is into that stuff and getting very nice results from them. It just hasn't happened here as there are no Saba's
Continuing the Lowther theme, these might be worth a punt:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lowther-Acous...8QQihZ009QQcategoryZ43804QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Hi, There are a pair of Snell Ks on the Emporium website. Not sure what vintage they are but well worth a look. £200 boxed. http://www.emporiumhifi.com/Pages/ModernPages/SpeakersM.html SCIDB
