Almost certainly true. It might be interesting to have another poll of who you would vote for if we had PR. I suspect it might look different. I know in my case there would be one less Lib Dem and one more Green.

Despite a not very subtle hint I dropped last time he gave a silly vote on a poll...

Perhaps 1979 was the last time there was a real choice - it's interesting to note that in some ways the current Labour party are "to the right" of Mrs 'my greatest achievement? - New Labour' Thatcher. Can you imagine the reaction from the left if a Tory government had implemented, say, legislation on tuition fees / student loans / ID cards / foundation hospitals etc..?

hmmm, interesting how the poll has split the bnp seperate from the other nationalistic platform parties. personally i think they are all despicable, campaigning on a race bias, but it just goes to show.....
    cheers

Surely that was in 1992? Labour was still a left-wing party then.

Indeed and have you noticed how probably at least half of those who were disgusted when Maggie cut off the supply of tax payers' money to those innefficient industries in the late '70s/early '80s are now saying that no way should tax payers' money be used to save Rover!

Going off the above poll, parliment would consist of:

    Con - 74
    Lab - 109
    Lib - 278
    Other - 183

    Hung parliment.

No, I can vouch for that. Didn't know the fine was $100, but I knew there was a fine.

My choice based on the fact that the SNP and Plaid Cymru are nationalist in the sense that they want more independence for the nations they represent ie Scotland and Wales. The BNP is not nationalist but racist. Other than being Welsh or Scottish nationalist SNP and PC are pretty much standard democratic socialist fare (from what I understand) and don't have the neo fascist leanings or origins of the BNP (you do remember the NF don't you?).

I did wimp out in any representation of the Northern Irish political parties, because frankly I don't understand Ulster politics (perhaps Tones might better explain).

Anyways that's why. To be honest I didn't think that hard about how I divvied it. I might have included UKIP as well ... but didn't

i know quite a number of scots all who have snp leanings. get a few beers in them and change 'english' to 'asian' and you'd have a fully tatted and suede headed member of the bnp. i just think all the nationalistic platform parties, bnp, snp, sinn fein, palid cyrmu, etc. should be lumped together to fight it out on a deserted island somewhere. that way the sane people can get on with getting along.
    cheers
