Sorry Tony but JM Labs product simply don't get the decay right in comparison to stats. I have owned Micro's and Mini's directly after living with Logans and the difference is profound. Bottleneck's assessment is far more accurate IMHO.

Don't forget that Stax also made great Electrostatic Loudspeakers at one time, should be pairs available on the UK used market, however they were pigs to drive at around 79dB.

Probably the Perigee FK1, UK importer is Jon Oakey somewhere in the midlands.

(No, I do not work for, or have any connection with Perigee)

I bet they sound very very good for a PA system!

They look almost identical to these drivers (look on the right) http://www.bgcorp.com/productsList.php

You could get a load of NEO8's or whatever those larger ones in the pic are (NEO10) and stick them together. Add some digital crossover to equalise the response (even the MAD ones will have that) and away you go! That seems like a fun project.

Even at the PartsExpress prices the drivers for a pair would only cost £4,750 and I bet when buying 128 driver you can get a much better deal!

No one has mentioned the long term reliability so far.

I looked into quad and logans many years ago. It seems that after a while it becomes necessary to have the panels rebuilt to retain the correct sound, as they degrade over time. Not quite the plug in and forget it approach you have with good ol' cones. Something to consider perhaps.

Given that plenty of people are happily using Quads built in the late 50s and early 60s, this seems like a very daft comment. Very few cone speakers would survive so long without a bit of periodic maintenance either.

Very true, and there are of course companies such as One Thing Audio (for quads) who can service them should you have problems.

I guess the most important consideration re servicing, is that ML & Quad will probably still be around in 30 years to fix your panels....

The daft observation was printed in a hifi mag many years ago. They said that dust particles can cause the membrane to degrade in sq, so needing a regular service.

Anyone on here owned some for a few years or more?

i use logans and the sound does degrade over time if kept in a dusty or greasy enviroment(near kitchen s, but who would put speakers near a fat soaked cooker anyway???)

to keep them sounding sweet, all you need to do is vacuum them about once a month. with panels being charged, they do attract dust(panels akin to a magnet for dust) vacuuming gets rid of the dust, so a nice clean panel produces all the frequency extreams.
as said before, cones do degrade over time too, rubbers perish, etc.

Smokers should also avoid stats. When I was addicted, My Logans took on a nice shade of Yellow in no time.
