Just curious but if the EU Electrical efficiency directives become law (which looks like they will) does that mean that class A and valve amps will no longer be available??
Does that mean that class D amps will be the future of Hi-Fi??
Has the industry grasped the implications.
i cant see Hi-Fi being excempted..
    so whats the future hold...
or have i totally misconstrued this legeslation..
    EuP directive

It would be nice if they also insisted that speakers have a sensitivity of 100 dB/W or more to discourage the use of unnecessarily powerful & complicated amplifiers.
Anything over perhaps 3 watts becoming illegal.
    'twould be very fine!

i think your both missing the point.
Both valves and class A amps are very ineficient based on energy drawn against output.
Even if all speakers were super sensitive a 3watt valve amp still wont meet the requirements.
Class D is 95% efficient and tho i dont know the exact requirement of the legeslation its likely to be at least 75% which makes valves and class A s/s redundent!!

I get the point but am not being entirely serious. However, encouraging the development of speakers which require less power is arguably as much of a green issue as amplifier 'efficiency'.
