    England.... what happened there then?

Though I admit to laughing to myself a little at how shite they were, it's always MOre interesting to watch players you're familiar with. So I guess it's a slight shame they didn't make it...... very slight.

    Hi,

They were poor last night. Too many players went missing. When the going got tough, the tough when missing.

Did you see the state of the pitch? What a mess! I understand the roof over Wembley doesn't cover the pitch like at Cardiff. But it was no excuse for the performance.

Steve Mclaren has been sacked for his failure. He will still gets a nice pay off though.

Nice work if you can get it - well paid job if you do well, lump sum payment if you don't. What's the incentive - personal pride I guess

A lot of pressure, and even if you do well for a bit the knives are soon drawn if results slip (as with Eriksson). Still, I never fancied McClaren as manager and in 18 months England were only convincing on a handful of occasions that I saw. England were dire last night, and much as I hate to say it they didn't deserve even to be in with a shout of qualifying after their other group games.

What I found strange with the Croatia fixture was that after Israel beat Russia to give England a chance, everyone (in the media) seemed to think that qualification was now just a formality, despite England having to get some sort of a result from the best team in the group. And why did they seem to think Croatia would roll over just because they'd already qualified? I mean, why the hell would they? Madness!
