have now taken possession of s/h bel canto evo4, or will that be the other way around?

only had time, what with footy on tonight, to unpack, drool, and find way of getting onto bottom slot of my rack (which just happens to be a Mana 4 tier). I remove glass, the four spikes and then the rubber feet from the evo4, then carefully slid in to now sit on top of oak feet. seems to be ok.

pandering to those you know about these things, I'm starting off bridged.

now this is supposedly so new that I'll have to burn in, so am suspending comment just now. that said, soundstage seems smaller than the 8000S but definitely more control.

just like a Christmas present hidden under the sofa - except this time its for Santa!

What do otherEvofolk think? Is there is heatsink problem latent in this?

And what to put underneath the upright Evo? I have an Auralex amp mat but that is used for my sub. I think I'll use it in the short-term to stop vibration from speakers thorugh the wooden floorboards.

btw, does your Evo humm? Or is it completely silent? This one does hummm, could that be a fault?

I wouldnt think heat would not be a problem as they are very efficient and relativly cool running.

I have mine on an acrylic amp stand (DIY), with a siesmic sink between stand and amp. Not had much time to play with the sink but it is a subtle but worthwhile improvement.
I also run mine bridged, with single ended IC's but the Evo4 switched to ballanced as this elliminates a ground loop i had.

They do take a fair while to run in, mine opened up immensly after a few hundred hours.
They seem fairly responsive to mains treatment and cables, but usual caveats YMMV etc..

I seem to remember a few other people saying theirs hummed, not sure tho. Mine has a fair amount of background hiss, but i honestly think it is my dodgy mains (i can here the downstairs cooker fan thru speakers when it kicks in).

idle power draw is 30 watts, it says in manual, 700 watts of continuous power output in balanced mono mode, but no written statement of max current, except statement that it is 90% efficient - and my physics, the little I knew, is long forgotten!

    Ditton,

AS for the humming TX, I have 9 here at the moment (2/4/6's) and a few do hum, the rest do not, My new mono blox, one hums (very very slightly) even through the mains gear. The other ones that hum all have the same transformer, coincedence maybe.
Max current draw, 5amp slow blow fuse on 240v, so maybe upto 100+amps on first switch on for micro secs poss?
Constant reasonably loud, I doubt 3 amp max. and Ditton zip heat in the room, My panel makes more heat than the pair of them going at full tilt LOL.
It will take a while to open up, the mono, took about 350+ hours at least to come on song. Wm

    Kev,

Had you tried running it directly out of the wall? no PS Audio.
I have never run 2 power amps (B/C's) out of one conditioner only the unlimited current type Shunyata/Audio Magic, so I couldn't really make a specific comment on that.
Only when I've tried to run 2 evo's out of other stuff Nordost/Isolate'tek, they just don't like it, it kills the staging & dynamics, and found them better straight out of the wall on a top notch power lead. (Imho) Wm

I,ve only got the one Evo4 at the moment,It really pairs with stages rather well
the only issue is I'm running the thing pretty hard maybe, Aero was @ -18db
I had no takers on The Evo 4 @2K and its too good to sell cheaply so the other option .......get another,
BTW can you keep an eye out for a AA DAC the Aero's gone today

and a belated all the best in your new venture

I have just sorted out a couple of evo 4's for a gent running some apogee's with a digital x/over.
All I will say here, is that the Tact robs half the volume of the B/c and any other amp you attch it too NON digitally so just be careful here Kev, and thanks Wm

I'd mirror Tones comments about being best straight out the wall. Personaly i have mine running from a iso tx, again due to the mains probs, but have tried it when mains are quiet and it is a tad better.

so, can I get this straight: is everyone cool about putting the Evo4 on its side?

Thanks for the comments about the humm, which is not loud and not low; its just, well, there. I sit next to the rack when I watch TV, so its then I notice it, rather than when listening to music - and then I change seats and face the fireplace (about which are arranged the main speakers)!

also, pleased to hear that it opens up on several (!) hours of running. Kev, I now realise that there is benefit in buying a s/h evo4 that has been run in!
