    There's a simple way to find out, put gaffer tape over the window and hit the button a load of times until you are utterly lost as to if its on or off. Then listen, and guess, do this ten times. If you manage better than 7 out of 10 then it might well sound different.

    An alternative is to simply leave the display off and not even worry about it. FWIW, I've never heard anyone comment they thought their CDP sounds better with the display on;-)

    Comes down to keeping noise from the display away from the other circuits - if it generates appreciable noise in the first place.

    So good or bad design and it should be possible to eliminate any effect without actually turning off the display.

    Will do...it's essentially only three years old. It was completely refurbed from the ground up right before a NANA staffer put it up for sale.
