    ALBUM SALES

More than 228 million albums were sold in the 12 months from June 2002 - up 3% on the previous year - according to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).

Five years ago (1998): 210 million
Ten years ago (1993): 153 million
    Twenty-five years ago (1978): 107 million

Wonderful. Seems Norah Jones and Avril Lavigne have made a difference.

Yep, seen a bit on this on TV other night too. Same rising figures were mentioned as those you've given. The profits were said to be down though due to many cut price cds being on offer. Showed the figures for the years when cassette recording kicked off and how sales continued to rise with that too.

Norah Jones, yeah, that's my gal. A welcome refresh from the lots of trash that singers like Britney Spears throws around. Sorry to the Brit Spears fans out there. I just can't take her music howsoever.

Maybe they don't really like her music, just her body. Specially for the men. She admitted already though she's no longer a virgin :p

profits may be down but they are still making a profit.

    Typical scenario...

Chairman "sorry we can't give a company bonus this year as company profits are down".

Chairman receives fat bonus and salary increase.

I wonder if it is actual profits are down or the increase in profits are down. As in, profits only went up 5% rather than the 8% average of previous years (figures made up).

Like with Beyonce videos - I can reccomend them.

Just turn the volume down on the telly, and play something else over the top!

.. NB - anyone else turn the volume down and the subtitles on so they can listen to music and still watch the news etc?
