ten out of ten for effort. But Isnt the block just going to ring in sympathy with the music and transfer it back to the player? Id suggest a concrete floor and a Torlyte type platform would sound woodier and preferable

torlyte....as far as I could tell last time I handled some is mdf or a very close relative.

I can vouch for the effect these feet have ....I was as surprised as everyone who's heard them ...as to the resonances they do seem to reduce vibration ...I use a stethescope and its clear a lot less vibrational energy is getting into the kit. The higher freqs are clearly attenuated the lower freqs less so ...must rig my osciloscope up and see whats going off infact the deq might be better ??

Alright, put it another way, how do you control vibrations in your own kit?

Torlyte is surprisingly good- the shelves and side supports are hollow with a thin plywood (?) matrix inside, very light (sorry - lyte) but I regret selling mine. I had a base unit and 2 shelves but ebayed it out of neccessity 3 yrs ago or so. It made a real difference on 2 very different floors - concrete withh carpet and my current old floorboards. It was superior to a soundstyle metal/glass stand and to an Ash designs I bought later.

Vroomfondle, maybe I ahve misunderstood you but it seems to me you have poured cold water on my attempts at vibration control....but have not comeup with an alternative solution!

OK, lets assume floor-bourne vibration are soemthing and nothing......vibration picked up from soundwaves are surely still a force to be reckoned with...being absorbed by supports (however good) and equipment.

Plus also the issue of vibs coming from the cdp motor itself.

I am still not clear why you think the measures I have taken won''t work to reduce these?

Sorry if I've missed it some where!

Never had a problem with vibration myself. Certainly not coming up through the floor.

I am with you DavidF. I think that your stand is spot on, it must sound verry good. Dont take any notice of the people who only come on these boards to cause trouble they must be deaf.

    Cheers

My favourite "tweak" was when I was a student. It built on the work of the audio pioneer, Peter Belt. I found that I could vastly improve the sound quality of my cdp by mounting it in the freezer. You had to leave it runnng all the time to avoid condensation but the improvement in sound quality was impressive. (Peter Belt discovered that keeping your cds in the freezer improved the sound quality.)
