OK, I know it's probably been done to death, but I'm here to enquire as to people's favourite music. A top 10 Album list, if you will - just like Desert Island Disks. Remember this is where you give details of your favourites because you like the music, not because it makes your bells-and-whistles hi-fi sing because it was recorded in a monastery in 1720 :D

For the record, here's mine (in no particular order):

    Radiohead - Kid A
    Japan - Tin Drum
This Mortal Coil - Filigree and Shadow
    Joy Division - Closer
Future Sound of London - ISDN
    Jean-Michel Jarre - Equinoxe
The Smiths - Meat is Murder
Cocteau Twins - Head over Heels
Dead Can Dance - Within The Realm Of A Dying Sun
    Biosphere - Substrata

    Over to you.....

Interesting selection there D Louth, I'll have to check some of those out.

Personally, I prefer Wider Angle to Morning Sci-fi, and I agree Hounds of Love rocks... :)

Sunburst & Snow Blind, and Sugar Hiccup got me into the Cocteau Twins, Treasure LP, then blue bell knoll the album. I thought Heaven or Las Vegas was pants. Dif Juz were quite interesting as were clan of Xymox, all on the 4AD label. There was an album called Lonely is an Eyesore, and I really wish I hadn't given it away, its had a very interesting mix of tracks, from groups like Colourbox and Throwing Muses. I'll stick my list together. Frank Tovey Back to Nature will be on it though, I love the ending on a good hifi.

The early Kate Bush albums are still my faves...

Grace Jones - Living My Life
Zero 7 - When it Falls
    Radiohead - the Bends
Kate Bush - Never For Ever

    Air - 10,000hz Legend
    Shriekback - Oil and Gold
Pink Floyd - Wish you were here
    Goldfrapp - Felt Mountain
    Joanna Newsome - Ys

(no particular order - some like the last one are on because of the sheer kooky variety, I'd like to have put Talk Talks Spirit of Eden in my case too - its just a masterpiece!!)

    Hi corruption

I like Wider Angle as well but SCI-Fi Mournings just sounds wonderful . I think its the blending of rock and dance with a wee touch of prog rock too. The bass playing at times reminds me of New order as well . It was my first Hybrid album and i bought it because i loved the cover ,new nothing about them . Bit of a risk to do that but i bought it and that album became a fave of mine since ,also recorded quite well too.

I think Hounds of Love is Kate's most complete album,in that there is no real weak tracks were as some of her other albums are a bit patchy . In saying that i do like Never For Ever almost as much as Hounds of Love .

The other albums ive listed are a mixture of melodic rock( AOR) Prog rock and dance . You might like DT8 project , Darren Tate the guy behind it has been around for a few years and i just love the textures and sound layering on this album. Nice vocal work on it and it just stays on the right side of not being too top 40 Dance . After Life is another fabulous album ,more chill out than dt8 ,in fact Steve Millar has worked in Ibiza at Cafe Del Mar and with Jose Paddila . All his After Life albums are magical but this one is his best IMHO.

Gold Frapp -Black Cherry and Roisin Murphy -Over Powered are IMO the two finest examples of Pop/Dance Music and are also very well recorded.

Liking melodic rock is one of those pleasures i love and despite a lot of people thinking this genre is crap i would strongly disagree the albums i list would be the best of there type IMO.

One of my all time fave's is Sagas album Behavior ,i bought this in Holland and have loved it ever since . I know SAGA fans might prefer say Silent Knight or one of their others but Behavior is a perfect example of melodic, prog rock ,wonderful songs, great vocals and fantastic song composition IMO.

Good selections there from everyone, I can pick out a few here and there that I know (Goldfrapp, Lisa Gerrard etc) but there's loads I've never heard of.

SMEagol - I have Lonely is an Eyesore (good old E-bay!) and can burn you a copy if you are interested - just PM me your name and address and I'll send it on to you. Not that I condone copying CDs at all... ;-)

Looking forward to expanding my collection this lunchtime. This week I've already bought a "best of" CD of Parliament and also the new Nine Inch Nails album (haven't listened yet though).

At this rate I'll have no money to buy any hi-fi upgrades... :-(

The Stooges. Anything and everything, including Metallic KO.

    Velvet Underground. Everything except 'Squeeze'

    The Boo Radleys. Everything.

    Half Man Half Biscuit. Everything.

The above are all you really need for a well-balanced music collection. Probably more than ten records though.
