    Hi all

I have a trailing socket at the back of the main equipment rack into which the DVD player and integrated amp are plugged, I was listening this morning to my Amphion speakers at about a thankfully modest 55db and I heard a fizzing noise through the speakers followed by a large bang sound through both channels.

I feared the worst, but luckily the hifi and speakers were all fine, however - a cloud of grey smoke was emerging from the DVD player. Now this had only been on standby, so why would it behave like this? Its not connected to the amp either. Is it something to do with the current the amps pulling?

any clues? - needless to say a surge protector is my next purchase!

    Red Bull not required...
I have to say my energy level briefly soared when I thought I'd blown my speakers.

come on, its not like a linn/naim debate, one of you fellas must know something... Could it have been a freak power spike? or is it the amp causing the other thing to overload. Either way I'm fed up with my shitbox™ trailing sockets. can anyone recommend some good ones that don't cost the earth... (no pun) I'd get yours lbr but I'm a little short at the mo! (no ronnie corbett jokes)

Nothing to do with your amps

Things fail on a random basis throughout their life. Just put it down to a random event. It may have been triggered/accentuated by mains fluctuations, but no real reason why it should be. Just one of those things that happens occasionally!

    :(

Er - cat wee'd on your DVD player:) - highly conductive cat wee.

Other than that - should have bought a cheap one from Sainsbury's - they last ages;)
