(I'm not sure whether this should've been just an addition to the "last 5 records" thread so if any moderator feels it appropriate to move it there, then please do so).

Anyone found any bargains in the January sales then? I'm guessing there must be a few out there to be had. HMV's sale is rather disappointing though, seems to be the same sale they had not 2 months ago, the only new addition to it that I spotted was Paul Weller's latest album for £4.99.

The most common thing in the sales seems to be the Stereochronics' Performance & Cocktails, saw that in 3 or 4 places for just £2.99. Still £3.00 too much.

Amazon look to have a fairly good sale on, some back catalogue stuff at £5 a go, Tower have DVDs and CDs from £1.99 but it doesn't seem like many of the other sites are bothering though... I guess all year round discounts are better anyway. However, if any sites are doing a really good sale, or you spot some bargains, let us know!

I picked up a few bits and pieces in town today, although I didn't pick up either of the Distillers albums which I'd mentioned wanting in the "last 5 records" thread, in fact I think there might be three, there was one with a plain black cover in Solo... unless it was just an EP. I did manage to spend a few quid though:

Goodbye Mr Mackenzie - Live: On The Day Of Storms
Simple Minds - Good News From The Next World
    Rob Peters - Zinc
    Rob Peters - Flatiron

the above 4 cost a grand sum of £9 courtesy of the cash dealers place.

The Datsuns - The Datsuns (£4.99)
Manics - Know Your Enemy (£2.99)
The Popes - Hollywood Boulevard (£2.99)
Nils Lofgren - Damaged Goods (£2.99).

Also picked up Fargo - Special Edition DVD, Minority Report 2DVD set and Tape, the last 2 courtesy of Blockbuster's ex-rental sale.

Was going to pick up George Harrison's last album as I saw that for a fiver but decided against it.

MVC seemed to have a good selection. They tend to do quite well as far as sales go. Popped into my local xmas eve but had to resist buing anything. Will have a proper look soon.

I had a look at amazon's sale too. Some bargains to be had... shame about the p+p though! Need to fill the basket to save on that.

    oooops!

put my january stash in the ''last 5 albums'' thread.

especially intersted to hear if ''FSOL - lifeforms'' is any good. I liked FSOL in the ''wipeout'' PS1 theme music... I know thats a sad reason to buy the album.........sometimes risks pay off though!

Its very good indeed, a bit of a landmark album of its time, and definitely FSOL's best album by far. The 12" of Papua New Guinea is also essential.

WHSmith has a good 'clearout'. Lots of CDs for just £2 each. Pretty poor rock and pop (though I did find a few good things: Datsuns, Beck, Bjork etc) but a good chance to get some bargain classical.

HMV and MVC seem to be the standard knock a few quid off a carefully chosen range of CDs. I wasn't impressed.

www.askdirect.co.uk are doing the HD600's for £139 and they have them in stock. They've actually put these up in price as back last summer they were only £120.

I'd say theres bargins to be had, I even ventured into the milling throung and escaped with several 'items of interest'

    Pink Floyd 'Pulse' £8.99
    Ozric Tenticles 'Erpland' £6.99
    Ozric Tenticles 'Arborescence' £6.99
Bernie Marsardens Green & Blues band First album £6.99

Worth the brief blast into shopping hell for while. Wm

A couple of years or so ago Richers where knocking out a batch of HD580's for £58 each. I know that a few folk on HFC at the time got some, so miracles do happen.

With the new HD650 arrived I thought there might have been a few more of the 'Smiths' trying to catch up with the 'Jonses' and there would be a few surplus HD600's knocking about.

But I did find a copy in our local HMV of the 2CD Benny Goodman 1938 Carnegie Hall concert for £8.99 - about £2 cheaper than I've seen anywhere else.

It'll happen, particularly as the HD650 is supposed to be quite a bit better than the HD600.

Not certain if this is in the right thread, as I think it's been available for a little while, but I reckon it's pretty good value so thought I'd mention it.

www.simplyvinyl.com have got some of their 180g pressings in a buy 6 for £50.00 deal(with postage works out at £56.50) - I just ordered 3 Nick Drake, 1 Jeff Buckley(dlp), 1 Beach Boys and 1 Byrds album(triple lp). They have also got some of their 180g pressings on special at £5.99 each, so might be worth a look.

If you have a record player that is....
