Extention room suffering from a bit of a crush, I'll get adblock and a few others tomorrow. Did anyone else have a copy of DOM Inspector waiting for them in Tools | Extentions ?

Auric, yep DOM inspector is there in my Tools | Extensions menu. It was there in the release candidate as well. Dunno exactly what it does though.

I've found it faster than 0.8 and a little less buggy, the bigger icons are a bonus too.

Not sure about the new look, but it'll probably grow on me. However, small "upgrade" bug:

    - 0.9 doesn't recognize a user profile left over from a 0.8 installation (which is in the ....\Application Data\Phoenix folder) and creates a new default profile under ....\Application Data\Mozilla. Worse, I don't seem to be able to import an old profile. I'd rather not just copy the files across in case anything in the bookmarks.html or prefs.js file structures has changed....

Anyone else had the same problem?

    Michael.

    Michael,

Copying your bookmarks from 0.8 to 0.9 works fine, I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm not too sure about the prefs.js file.

FYI there seems to be a bug where themes don't load.

Do you know how to use different profiles, maybe have a play with a test profile ?

    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p <- loads the profile manager

    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p default <- uses the default profile

I copied bookmarks, cookies.txt and signons.txt over and that screwed a few things up (eg: "Login" buttons on sites just stopped working - nothing happened). Then I tried creating a new profile and the profile manager seems to be horrendously buggy. Whenever I tried to delete a profile it just crashed.

Anyway, I deleted everything under the "Profiles" directory (including profiles.ini) and restarted FireFox.....then it did ask me if I wanted to import my 0.8 profile, which it did successfully.

So, the 0.9 install creates a new default profile which then prevents you from importing your old 0.8 profile :newbie: . I'm all sorted now but they really have to sort out the installation/upgrade bits of the software...

    Michael.

I've just started using Firefox, given the latest IE security issue.

I do like the speed and the interface. But there's a few sites that don't work quite right (formatting on parkers.co.uk forum, and dpreview.com mouse-over menus don't appear, a few other css issues), and for some reason universal scroll on my trackball doesn't work. Could do with a Go button as well...

Not a bad prog though. I'll continue to use it for the speed and relative security.

I keep meaning to mention that to Phil - it is quite annoying. In this case I don't think it's FireFox not rendering it properly but dpreview.com detecting a non-IE browser and deciding it's not capable of the mouse-over menus and just sending the normal ones. I'll have to try making FireFox masquerade as IE6 and see what happens ;)

    Ok dumb tech support question.

I have store passwords clicked and I can see a list of them via the options menu. When I log on to my ISP I am prompted for a username password, clicking in the username field with IE gave me drop down box with potential usernames and there associated passwords. Firefox doesn't provide me with this list.

Have I disabled something elsewhere, as I can't believe it doesn't have this ability?

    Thanks.

Your isp probally stores a cookie on your PC.

    Try clearing out your cookies.

By george he's right, many thanks Sgt Rock, now using Firefox 100% of the time, (well apart from those pesky sites that it doesn't work on)

Many thanks and a virtual pint is on its way over to you

Cheers Andy, got my go button now. It's becoming a fairly sorted piece of software... not perfect, but I'll stick with it.
