I've been using firfox for ages with no problems at all but since the latest update it seems to have gone a bit pants.

    Things I've noticed so far...

The only changes I make to the lay out are to change to small icons and add a "new tab" and "new window" button. However, everytime I close the browser it doesn't save my changes.

The built in search bar doesn't work. There doesn't seem to be any search engines loaded so I click to add engines... From the page I'm directed to (https://addons.mozilla.org/search-engines.php) there's no google option, so I've tried adding some of the others. They don't seem to load though.

    Any ideas?

Did you deinstall and then reinstall ?. Sometimes it saves in a different directory updates the config in one and reads the config in the other setup. Real pain.

Alternatively it may be a fix to 1.5.0.7 coming to you soon

It ran the update on it's own in the background (as it's always done). I was informed that a I needed to restart for the update to take effect and did so when I'd finished what I was doing.

1.5.0.6 seems to be working for me - although I do wish there was a document somewhere (preferably available before committing to the update) that says exactly what the incremental changes are.

Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place.

I must say I'm a little fed up with lots of software doing these itsybitsy updates and not saying what they're for.

I'm happy to let updates run automatic, they're usually done without really being noticed.

This is a bit of a twunt though and I'm not sure why.

    MO,
Just one question, are all of your extentions showing as being installed and do they work as advertised? After browsing the Mozilla forum and chattng with friends I am at a bit of a loss as to what you should do next other than a remove followed by a clean install.

No extensions installed. The only thing I change is shrink to small icons, add the new tab and new browser buttons, and reMOve the bookmark toolbar.

Other than that everything is completely standard.

I just tried uninstalling and reinstalling 1.5.0.6..... still happening.

So I tried installing 1.5 and that's doing the same too.

All was fine before, and really can't think of what's caused this.

I think you need to remove them your profile too, mine are stored under :-

    C:\Documents and Settings\Andy\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\Default\searchplugins

    YAY!

Deleted the MOzilla folder from my application data (would have thought uninstalling firefox would have done that:confused: ) and then installed it again.

    All seems well.

    Thanks :)

I used to use an extension when first using firefox which shrunk all the menu's (file, edit, etc...) into a single drop down menu. I think I'll try and find that again. I'm then able to fit all the buttons on a single line with the address bar not being too small.

Any other extensions worth checking out? I used to use a couple for tabs which let you switch between them using the scroll and a button iirc.

    Auto update to 1.5.09

    Same thing happened again.
Unable to right click and do a search for highlighted terms.
The built in search contains no engines.
Changes to lay out not remembered.

Deleting the MOzilla folder from application data seems to do the trick, but seems odd.
