    Hello forum members,

i'm a newbie to ZeroGain and I would like the advice of anyone who has compared the older model unidisk with the latest HDMI model.
I have had the older scart model now for a couple of years and it has served me well enough.
However as i've now moved up to HDMI ready plasma, i'm concidering whether it's of any value (sound and picture quality) upgrading to the newer model.
Any thoughts or advice will be very wellcome.
    Cheers and regards,

    Hi melorib,
I've since been advised that there's no difference whatever to picture or sound via HMDI compared to my old scart sc so I'll go along with that.
How do you find yours. I take it you hook it up with HMDI?

Melorib, another thing I've wondered about is what would be the comparable Linn stand-alone cd player to compare the SC with?

There should be some difference between SCART and HDMI, but I wouldnt upgrade just for that, if everything else is equal... Of course to buy a new one, I did wait for HDMI...

I started using component out, then changed to HDMI, the image is a bit better...

In my satelitte box, I compared SCART with HDMI, and the difference is day and night, but the SCART is cheapo, and I am not sure it is configured to RGB, although I think it is...

I didnt test any CD only players, as DVD playing is a must for me, any way, the SC plays CDs perfectely, and I get SACD as a bonus...

SACD was a pleasant surprise, I even bought a few...

Yeah I've got a few too, they sound great but I must say I prefer DVD-Audio. They provide a lot more info often including interaction/dvd's/stills.
I have a lot more of that format.

Does your SC get HOT the same as mine tends to and does it sometimes refuse to read a disc for no apparant reason.
When this happens I have to switch it off and on again before it will eject.
Apparantly many older SC's have these problems.

It doesnt get hot at all, it did happen to refuse to read a disc once or twice, not many times...

The "problems" I have are, it takes forever to open the drawer for the first disc, and while I had it on the supports, on the floor, sometimes it would be noisy, I had to press a little the top for it to shut up, since I moved it to a shelf, using the same supports, never happened again...

I only have one DVD-audio, and an old recording of John Lee Hooker, I bought SACDs because I liked more tittles in that format...

ziggybampot, sounds like you have an early SC, take it back to the/a dealer, and ask them to update it with the latest software, it's possibly 2 or 3 releases behind, it makes big difference to the disc readability, which is a known problem on early Unidisks, it will runner cooler, and the best bit CD's etc will sound much better :D it takes about 30 - 40 mins to do an early one, should be free if you bought it new etc.... if not it's worth paying for an hour of the dealers time !

Different presentation, but the Ikemi I guess is closest comparison, the new Majik CDP is meant to be much better. Not compared myself though.
