I have this from a Hi Fi News staffer, KK would not get to work for IPC Publications even if Hell froze over.

Such a shame coz the rumour sounded soooooooooo good.

HiFi Plus have spaces for perhaps 90 product reviews per year. (6 issues 15 per issue) They say there is more new good product coming out than they really have the space (or resources) to cover. They have no interest in wasting those spaces giving bad reviews. I think the inference is, if you don't see an item reviewed, either they didn't rate it as interesting enough, or possibly the manufacturer/distributor chose not to submit it to them.

Or they did submit it, a reviewer listened to it and found it below par, and you read nothing about this in the mag.

look at Howard Popecks site, which KK now writes on.

Apparantly he's out in italy and knows nothing about it.

could all be smoke screen - I can't stand KK myself, but his editorship would certainly liven it up a bit. If they had any sense they'd get Art Dudley to edit HFN. easily the best hifi writer around.

Why would Art relocate from the US to the UK?

Not enough bluegrass in the uk :D

I have to agree that Art Dudley is the most enjoyable hifi scribe out there and one of the main reasons why I subscribe to Stereophile. He can make the most dull topic - like playing with PSUs on an LP12, fascinating reading.

His articles on getting 2nd hand QUADs and refurbishing them was excellent - and I hate that kind of thing.

Why would KK go from USA to England, why did John Atkinson go from UK to USA,

Art loves England and English HIFI more than KK ever will, plus he can actually WRITE.

He should come over and form a new mag with KK and Chris Frankland - that would be fun

Hifi + is utter cobblers unless of course you are a millionare who's idea of a good musical evening is having your ears syringed by your hifi an paying 100k for the pleasure, full nordorst wiring loom is essential for full benefit, best amp I've heard and a bargain at 30k etc etc etc. Shizen

Hifi News - I disagree primarily because they seem to think that the only way is 500 watts up the backside and speakers that only come to "life" when you do so.

    Hifi Choice - Comic
    What Hifi - Comic

Hifi World --Hmmm Knotty one, it seems that things are off or on the pace, yesterdays favorite is tomorrows laughing stock and if I hear one more worshipful comment regarding a mediocre and appallingly bright pair of old Japanese speakers that only sound OK with about 3 amplifiers (and I've had some and tried loads of amps) I will fcuking scream. On the other hand at least they give a passing nod to classic kit and seem to live in the real world.

I've given up reading the press as they are infuriating.

hi-fi mags and their porn equivalents.

hi-fi+ = playboy - unattainable expensive celebrity models

hfn = hustler - slightly down market than playboy but still nice looking and in the 'fantasy' category.

hfc = readers wives. you could actually own some of this stuff.

whf = crack whores monthly - you could but you wouldn't

    hfw = over 50's monthly.

i think that most of us love to hate this issues, from a to z, but we do have something in common (maybe "the bug" ) that we become critics ourselves, it keeps this forum and others going, everybody says that they gave up reading hi-fi mags, but somehow they quate reviewers opinions on products, if they don't read mags it's funny that they can criticise both mag and reviewer, we all have a point of view, that's fine after all we converse and keeps us occupied, regards nando.

The worry Julian is that you clearly buy both sets and yet only the hifi mags make it to the bathroom.

There's far more twats to look at in the hifi mags these days.

Which ones are they, then? I've a pair of something they reviewed, and what they wrote was more-or-less correct.
Hifi mags should be judged simply on their pron content. Stereo Sound, Analogue, Tube Kingdom etc are easily the finest audio pron anywhere.

The latest Hifi+ has got a very fetching pic of a Rega P5 in it.

Well I, for one, was well chuffed.
