Hi, Paul Miller is now the acting ed of HiFi news. What happen to the last editor? SCIDB
what i hear and what will be, it remains to be seen, how ever if iam wrong then i will deal with lot's of apollogising and taking care of the horses mouth, if gossip news is not such a good idea to put it on a thread of any forum, then i think it will be a boring forum as it would not get you all to say your coments and commucate with each other, so far i know k.k. is involved still with hfn, nando
Is't KK freelance? If this is the case then no doubt he will have a word or two (depending if he gets paid per word) in the future. The word on the last editor is that he is off long term sick. As the Mag says the Editor at he moment is Paul Miller. Does it really matter to us? If you like the mag buy it, if you don't then don't. Just skip to the end if the review and see how many marks out of 20 the bit of kit got.
Careful now all you Jurno's and dealers, you'll be discussing the benefits of being a mobile phone saleman next (sorry Airtime allocation & distribution specialists) who's mark up and clawback over a 12-18 month period are heathly enough to warranty the term 'rip off Britain'. Toss in the ordacity to the point of berligerence in obtaining 'electrical goods' outside your field as a divine right because your have designated yourself as 'trade' Then stand on your specially designed 'industry insider' soap box and proclaim its all one big con & that conspiricy theories are abound. If then if the massed public don't agree with the 'guidence', focus your attention into brow beating them with your '25 years or so' of hard core knowledge of large diameter drivers and carbinet design techniques. Thrown in with a soup song of masterful diversionary tactics worthy of magazine editor of mild repute. All in all a topic more relevent than do I buy a publication or not?. Sunday mornings just inspire you sometimes don't they?
I dunno... but he has a very weird and unrealistic idea of what it's like to be a mobile phone salesman. Chris. (a mobile phone salesman)
Hello, I think you'll find the retail trade works on GPR (gross profit retail). Thus: Say a dealer buys product for £120. Sells at £200.00. Profit = £80. Gpr = profit divided by retail, multiplied by 100; or 80/200 x 100 = 40%. Graham.
NANDo - once again fella you are way off the mark - i suggest you have a little word with your "reliable source" before posting "statements" about HFN. i have it on good authority that KK is NOT the new editior, and if you read the latest issue i remember seeing a certain P.Miller now acting as editor. keep up the good work.
As a matter of interest, I've just sold a 'sim free' handset for £239. We bought it for £199. 23% profit.
Sorry, not as much as you think. Cost £199.00 / sold £239.00 / profit £40.00. GPR = 40 divided by 239 x 100 = 16.736401% Graham.
It's only a cunning plan to make your friendly trader seem like a nice reasonable chap Even if you buy something for £1.00, and sell it for £10,000., you can never get to 100% GPR.
Hi, Having read this thread, I have a couple fo thoughts. I've been reading HFN for the last 20 years, and in the last couple of years it has really lost it's way. Their biggest mistake was losing Steve Harris, he clearly had a vision for where it was going. Then all this AV stuff went in there, with that dire AV Tech supplement, edited by Paul Miller, then he got replaced by Steve Fairclough, who lasted less than a year, and now they seem to have a new temporary editor every couple of months, but now the AV gear is back, and HFN seems to heading down the road of becoming another What Hi-Fi and Home Cinema magazine, with seemingly similar standards and an equally confusing layout. They need an editor who is dedicated to 2 channel, who has no vested interests (I'll have more to say on this when I have more time) and genuinely wants the best for the Hi Fi business and the readers of this once great magazine. Mike
