For sale: Stax SRS-4040 Signature System II electrostatic headphones and tube amp/driver.

The Stax SRS-4040 Signature System II comprises:
Stax SRM-006t driver unit, with dual triode output stage.
    Stax SR404 Signature electrostatic headphones.
    Bonus 5m cable (worth £95).

All units are in immaculate mint condition. All items are supplied with original boxes, and packaging, receipts and bonus sales literature.

For anyone not familiar with these products, Stax is considered to make some of the best headphones in the world. The 4040s have a wonderful quality of rendering almost all recordings enjoyable to listen to. I auditioned the 2020, 3030 and the 4040 and IMHO the 4040 was hands down better. The 4040 was more relaxing and had better tone and timbre than the 3030 without sacrificing detail. It plays all genres well. As expected it excels at classical, vocal, jazz etc. However, what I find really impressive is its ability to allow the listener to enjoy compressed 70, 80s rock and pop recordings.

The SR404 Signature electrostatic headphones are identical to the current model and to the best of my knowledge there is no technical difference between the current silver-coloured Stax SRM-006tII driver unit and the earlier SRM-006t driver unit (and the push button switches are way cooler on the SRM-006t!!). The specs are identical in all cases.

I bought these phones from Walrus hi-fi in 2002 and have looked after them ever since. They have received minimal usage - I would estimate about 200 hours in total including warm up time.

They have always been used on separate well ventilated shelves. They are only transported in their original packaging. I am selling as, unfortunately, I am just not the type of person who is able to sit down in one place for very long, so I quickly revert to my regular hi-fi!

This represents a rare opportunity to purchase an immaculate as-new condition example of this modern classic, as owned by one fastidious enthusiast.

    Price: £700

you should advertise these on rock grotto as well (if the rules allow?)

I suspect there are quite a few people over there that would be interested in this
