Could someone point me in the right direction for some his better stuff. I've always been put off by what I've heard before, but on the Mojo CD the Chilli's have put together, there was a great bit. Any suggestions please

Try "Hot Rats", for 'Peaches en regalia' and 'Gumbo variations' and then maybe "Freak out", for 'Go cry on somebody else's shoulder' and 'Motherly love'.

Loads to choose from but those are my recommendations :MILD: .

    Frank Zappa for beginners

I recommend "Overnite Sensation". And maybe something like "Sheik Yerbouti" and "Broadway the Hard Way".
    Happy listening!

start with "strictly commercial" for a good cross-section, if you have nothing.
there's "apostrophe / overnite sensation" on a single cd, that's worth a look.

found someone putting lists together on amazon, could be a good place to start also

    Re: Frank Zappa for beginners

Would be my first three recommendations too !! together with maybe Hot Rats. "You are what you is" is also quite a varied work and pretty good all the way through

Broadway.... is probably my favoute FZ album though

Another vote for Hot Rats and Sheik Yerbouti.

Bongo Fury and Were only in it for the money are also worth a try.

Which album (s) did Steve Vai appear on? .. I know he played with Zappa for a while, and presume it went on record?

Also, purely from a guitar perspective whats his best stuff?

    NB

Anybody know what happened to Dweezil Zappa? - I remember a brief flit into the limelight, and then nothing..

    and appears on:
    Tinsel Town Rebellion
    You Are What You Is
Shut Up 'N Play Yer Guitar
Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch
    The Man From Utopia
    Them Or Us

The only Zappa I've currently copied onto my ipod is his Live in New York album. You really get a feel for the quality of the band, not to mention the music. Other than that, Them or Us is one of my favourites.

    Summit,
What was the 'bit' on the Mojo CD?
That'll help to identify which of Zappa's very extensive and varied output you might like.
