    Rud Phucker,

    It's 'Planar'.

And if you cannot hear why a Xerxes or LP12 is better than a Planar 3 then why are you wasting money on hifi at all? You will never ever get it right, it appears you've spent many years failing already. Time to give up and get a Denon mini system from Currys.

    Paul

Rude ol' phucker is the origin of the name, I think. A quick google leads to interesting results ...

Edit: Damn, Paul beat me to it while I was googling.

I agree John, it is pretty bad form. That is why this thread was split. We didn't close it or delete any posts here because the LP12 was provisionally sold and all this "discussion" is a bit academic anyway. Didn't want to interfere too much:).

I wondered if it was a sock puppet - didnt work out the name though and I am kicking myself about that pun in hindsight. Who is it?

I state for the record that it isnt me and I assume anyone of the moderators that uses ip trace can confirm it.

Maybe not a glove puppet, but possibly a troll?

It's funny though, that a perfectly good piece of hif that would p*ss all over 95% of the population's gear is so hated or feted...
There may be slightly better, or slightly worse TTs than an LP12, but it most certainly still HiFi...

And if you want the best in TTs, the big Verdier with Morch arm is it... Anything else is mere flapdoodle.

    I wish - I've only got a Clearaudio...
If I could get a Verdier on my TT shelf, and more importantly past the wife, I would!

Leonard, I don't know if the 'getting it past the wife' part is about money or looks or both, but I can tell you that the Nouvelle Platine Verdier is cheaper and better looking than the original and doesn't sound worse.

Mine's in a deep china red and looks even better (to me).

How much is the Verdier, Markus, and could you use an Aro?

Yes, it does work with an Aro (superbly well, even), but there's no easy way to mount the arm rest. I used to just let the arm hang downwards, but somebody else used to have a small construction that sat next to the turntable.

i am not discussing the best my friends, we could sit here for days talking about that one. in 20 years i have had 4 lp12's 1 roksan xerxes 2 gyro decks 2 planner's and heard probably 100 decks, to my mind the best 2 decks in the world (not silly money) rock reference and alphason sonata synphony, the alphason is one of the best decks on the planet, that i have heard anyway

The problem, he said shallowly, is the looks...
She thinks it look too much like a BBC prop for Doctor Who from the 70s.. Mebbe one day.
And there were only full price options when I bought the Clearaudio - I notice Walrus have a 2nd hand one with Morch 12" arm for £2195.. And folks would buy an Orbe! Fools..

I don't think destroy is quite the right word...
You may find an Orbe incrementally better, or not.
You might use the word "destroy" in the context of an Orbe vs. 1920s HMV gramophone!
