Rudolph, you mentioned Chelmsford before in a post. Do you live near to there? I'm a dozen miles away in the greenery, just outside Maldon.

I've never heard a top flight vinyl system, so find this quite interesting. I note you only like the chord 64 dac for cd replay Brizon. Six of us couldn't tell the difference between the chord and a benchmark dac1 when swopping them over on ATC50's. Even the owners were oblivious. I expect you could put up with listening to the dac1 also.

Im sure the views are better in Sweden! How do you find the winters there? I have a mate who's always going out there to see his family.

Ok, mid flight then. I've yet to get airbourne anyway,

dam cold it can go down to minus 30 in midwinter and during december and january there is hardly any sun at all, it's like living in a coal mine, but sweden is beautiful i won't come back to england to live again i'm sure of that.

    Paul,

I am sure the benchmark sounds good! I prefer the pt decapo dac to the chord 64. Both dacs have a proprietary filter stage so that is definately an important factor.

    Nick.

Do wadia use prop filters? I have heard wadia - but in a dismal Classe / B&W N800 setup.

I've had some bad (and expensive) experiences with DACs. Finally decided not to bother with them and use the cd player untouched.

I have a Theta DAC and both my mate and I could not hear any difference the thing made to the cd player without it. Total waste of money and my most expensive hifi mistake.

I also have a NOS dac which I use in my 2nd bedroom system - takes the edge of a 17 year old Kenwood but relly doesn't make that much of a difference.

Most cdps and dacs use the same dac chips and filters and crappy o/p stages so it is not surprising they sound the same. Only a few cdps sound vastly different to my ears. Most of them used prop dacs or filters or had much better o/p stages.

so the dac route is over hyped then. my arcam cd92 sounds ok, so if i add a dac you don't think there will be that much difference then.
nick you swear by the pink triangle yes.

Sad thing is the Theta - which would cost a small fortune when new - didn't even make a difference to Kenwood cd player that is 17 years old.

Just goes to show how daft this hifi hobby can be sometimes - I was gutted :(
