the lp12's sound is limited by the lp12 itself. the arm will not make hardly any difference at all, in fact it can make it worse. when i went from an lvx plus to an ittock i am sure it sounded worse. so what did i do? bought the lingo, again no change in sound at all. i thought i know it must need an ekos, again no gain in sound at all, then thought ah cirkus? again no gain in sound, so what did i do ? got rid of the oc7 cartridge and bought an arkiv, again probably a worse sound. then it had to go. got a gyro and rb300 then never looked back at last a good sound.then a sme series v and then a van den hul, jesus it has been a bloody expensive road i have travelled down.

I dont wish to sound rude, but if you could not hear the difference between Valhalla/Lingo, LVX+/Ittok/Ekos, and Cirkus/non Cirkus bearing then the problem is not with the Linn stuff...

    I have to agree here.

The difference between Valhalla/Lingo and Cirkus/non cirkus is huge and far from subtle.

The cirkus upgrade makes the deck sound more neutral and tightens the bass up removing some of the colourations the non-cikused deck had. However to some the non-cirkus LP12 is THE classic Linn sound and I have to admit I did sort of miss it once I did the upgrade.

But you really should be able to hear the differences - I'd be worried if you didn't.

This isn't about 'sound' it's about distortion. You like more of it. Fair enough but this is supposed to be a hifi forum.

And the Phucker is clearly deaf, at least to music. At least it's obvious.

    Differences are not subtle.

If its not for you then fine, but it does read as if you actually bought the items concerned ( one does ask, "why?" ).

puy it this way, on my gyro you can just change from basic transformer to the qc supply. and i will tell you, there is NO difference at all to the sound, it's all a money making scam for the manufacturers i think.

No, wrong: listen to valhalla vs. Lingo 1, then L1 vs. Lingo 2.

I did, I bought on the spot.

IYO. You have already said that you have not heard the latest spec Linns so you are guessing.

I'd just like to point out that the dealer I bought my Linn gear from - Griffin Audio in Brum - was a very good dealer. I didn't have a serious hifi and aft nearly 6 months of looking around and giving up I chanced into Griffin and had by far the best demo.

The Linn (and Naim) systems I listened to that day were both far and away the most musical I had listened to and the service was excellent.

The cirkus upgrade was £300 and wasn't too much in my opinion.

Not all dealers are money grabbers but they do need to make a living and that involves taking money off you.

I never regretted buying the LP12 and it has given 7 years of great music and has been trouble free in that time. It had remained in place since the dealer did the cirkus/lingo upgrade and hasn't gone out of tune since (another LP12 myth imo).
