that wouldn't be Rayleigh in Essex would it ? hmmm

I have to admit I never had the problems with the LP12 you seemed to have and certainly never made any record unlistenable - except U2 but ANY deck would make that unlistenable :D

what you have to think when you spend 4 grand on a record deck, you must expect a good sound, not an ok sound, that is why you buy a planner, project etc

    Not arguing with that.

Decks like the gyro, orbe, the Notts analogue decks, SME, Brinkmann, Kuzma, VPI all cost a hell of a lot of money and they should deliver what you want. Problem is all the extras with turntables. CD most people plonk on the shelf and that is it. With decks there is the arm to worry about, then the cart, then the phono then where is it sat, then the setup and so on and so on.

By the way my LP12 is hardwood not mdf.

I still think the simplicity of the Orbe is fantastic and yet the build quality of the components is top rank.

I have a Denon DVD2900 which does me fine for my collection of cds and sacds and it aplys all my favourite films as well.

I have no interest in looking for a digital player unless the Denon breaks down - although Meridian make some nice players.

I understand that some shops now refuse to take lp12s as part exchange as they cant sell them.

I like the OL decks under 2 grand as well.

I have a pt de capo dac - prop dac and filter, stands shoulders with the best even now.

sell them? giving them away is the best answer.

bbv, is that a pink triangle dac you are talking about? and is that what you have. so it is a nice smooth sound? i might look into one of them.

I would expect a linn with ittock and cirkus to go for 500 quid. Which is what my mates went for. If you can find a buyer.

Yes thats right. Prop dac and prop discrete filter - free of most cdps nasties.

Yep the new materials being used nowadays are helping to move vinyl replay to higher levels - look at how much Project's carbon fibre arm costs.

I haven't heard any of the OL decks but MF gave a glowing review to one in Stereophile earlier in the year.

Most modern decks have moved to dc, there must be something in it. Not sure how much the never connected psu I've got makes to the Orbe as I haven't heard the the older VC one.

The NC is now available as an upgrade to the Dino, may do it or bite the bullet and get a Diablo.

No one else has lots of addon kits for their decks - the linn customers are being milked.

No other deck has so many unofficial mods either - that tells you soemthing as well. The owners want more.

my gyro has the qc power supply. bbv do you think going never connected will make much of a difference? 400 quid to do it i am a bit sceptical, after being bitten with the lingo.

I dont know - psu makes a lot of difference for phono but they matter much less for the motor. Its ok if you buy from new but the upgrade cost is a lot. I suspect spedning the money on upgrading the deck would be better. Ask wadia-meister.
