Seem to have had a bit of an issue with my DAC last night (after swapping the tubes) involving a very blown fuse and a odd "hot" smell coming from one of the transformers :(

The fuse is a 2a fast blow rather than slow blow. I do have a 2a slow blow but would it be safe to pop it in temporarily really just to check if the DAC is rather more unwell than simply a blown fuse.

Not sure why the fuse went, the DAC's a us voltage running through a voltage converter.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks
    Jeff

If your worried about the trans personally, I wouldn't start it up without taking it apart first and having a look for anything obviously damaged.

Good advice ....get a multimeter and check the transformer for an open curcuit on the input side and secondaries. Dismantle your wall plug and look for a short....seem if that fuse has blwn to.

then look round the internals for obvious problems and then as a last resort if everything seems ok reconect.

    Pete, Anx,

Thanks for the replies. There's no obvious damage, no burnt or singed areas!

Unfortunately I have absolutely no electrical knowledge whatsoever so buying a multimeter is a bit like giving a Martian an Ipod:D so I'm kinda limited to visuals/ substitution
