I'm having a dedicated spur put in for my hifi. minimum cost as a buddy from work is going to bang it in . my reasoning seems to be solid as I can hear the fridge cut in and worse the bel canto takes the breaker out on start up sometimes.

what should I go for - 6mm? twin and earth, pvc or micc. what should the breaker be rated at?

side issue - we're having some new lights put up too

MICC is expensive as are the glands for terminating it. But obviously has a certain amount of shielding offered from the copper sheath.
I would think a 20A breaker would do for an average system.

you're right about micc glanding - i hadn't though of that. Buying a small run of it might be tricky and the thought of my friends face when he says 'you want it wired in what?'

    what about the guage though

Well, 2.5 is good enough for a 30A circuit, so would suffice. But i would push the boat out (and follow the foofoo theory of bigger cable etc..) and go for 4 or 6mm.

6mm for the switchers (pwm amps), 10mm for the earthy gear.
Personally I run 6mm, minimal outlay ontop of the 2.5mm, worth the expense, and use a decent circuit board with *Quality* MCB's, also switchless wall sockets pay dividends too. T.

But a sparky will hate you for asking him to terminate 6mm into a socket:D
