Fabulous sounding 4 way with 2 metal cone 8" woofers, 3" dome midrange and front and back 1" planar ribbon tweeters. One of the few speakers to do the dynamics of a full orchestra while giving a full and proper soundstage. Finished in rosewood with original double boxes. True high end sound and about as good as it gets. Better than the VS VR4 JR. Much of the same drivers are used in their $145,000 speakers. Matching Genesis 700 center channel available as well. Retail was $7000 offered at £940.

The Genesis 400 is a dipolar design which radiates sound from both the front and the back. This kind of loudspeaker has many advantages over a conventional type, the most important of which are ease of room placement and an open and musically accurate soundstage presentation. The Genesis 400 is finished in a beautiful rosewood veneer.

There are five drivers in each of the 400's consisting of two ribbon tweeters, one three inch midrange dome and two eight inch metal cone woofers. Each driver in this three way loudspeaker system has been designed to be a perfect piston within its useable frequency band.

The tweeter, described by many reviewers in both the American and foreign press as possibly "the world's best," is a one inch planar ribbon design. It is hand-crafted from an extremely thin laminated membrane of aluminum and Kapton and measures a mere 0.0005 inch thick. The advantage of incorporating such an extremely thin membrane is its inherent low mass. The result of this design is a driver that has the speed of the best ribbon/electrostatic designs without the high distortion and poor dispersion that is typically associated with them.

The three inch midrange dome on the Genesis 400 is constructed from an amalgam of titanium and silicon carbide. This strong and lightweight design eliminates breakup modes through the entire middle frequency range and provides tremendous dispersion and dynamic range while maintaining its coherent musical quality.

The bass of the Genesis 400 is clean and powerful. It is produced by two eight inch metal cone woofers. By incorporating a stiff, machined, twin layer aluminum cone into our woofers, the problem of wobble, cone bending and non linear distortions associated with cones not possessing the stiffness of aluminum has been eliminated. Our aluminum cones are a magnitude stiffer than any plastic cone on the market today and virtually eliminate these problems.

In order to take advantage of the finest properties of each driver, a sophisticated fourth order Linkwitz Riley crossover is used between the tweeter and midrange. The advantage of a Linkwitz Riley network is nearly perfect phase coherence and seamless integration of drivers. To extend the 400's bass response to 30 Hz, capacitive and inductive tuning is incorporated rather than the traditional acoustic suspension or ported box design. Use of a sealed cabinet and LC tuning gives the 400 its extended and tightly controlled bass performance.

    MINIMUM ROOM REQUIREMENTS

The Genesis 400 is equally at home in a small or medium to large sized room and are an excellent choice for both music and home theater.

    ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

At four ohms nominal impedance they are reasonably efficient and can easily be driven with an amplifier as small as 100 watts per channel.

These speakers are among the very few affordable loudspeakers in the world that can reproduce a musically correct holographic image in your home. The 400's set new standards of spectral coherence, three dimensional imaging and startling dynamic range.

    Dimensions;
    45 inches tall
    12 inches front to back
    13 inches wide
    Weight 75 pounds each
Frequency response: 33 Hz to 36 kHz +/- 3 dB
Sensitivity: 89 dB one meter one watt
    Loudspeaker impedance 4 ohms
Crossover design: Passive 3-way, 4th order Linkwitz Riley phase coherent design.

...that's purely a matter of opinion ;) But considering the VR-4 JR is considerably less than $7000 new it's not really a like for like comparison either :MILD:
Even the VR-4 Gen IV SE's are still less money and IMHO, far better than Genesis.

    ...no fighting now ;)

Anyone considering Von Schwatevers really should read this .

A quite delightful expose of the guy who did a runner from watertown owing thousands.
