Any suggestions of where to purchase glass?

Considering a replacement AV stand and think a home-brew of wood frame and glass shelves is an option.

Scary and obvious I know , but try your local glass merchant , as they deal mainly with the trade they will have a good range and often have smallish pieces cheap for us mere mortals.

So far when searching for local glass merchants I only seem to find double glazing and such.

    Hi MO!

I would seriously consider using decent wood instead. Having tried wooden speaker stands recently, im amazed how much more natural the music is using wooden stands - i presume similar results will be gained from equipment stands.

When I changed back to my metal stands, everything sounded thin and artificial in comparison.

Dont know where you are Mo but I got 4 10mm toughened glass shelves with ground edges for about 75 quid from my local merchant. You should find one listed under glaziers.

I think its one of those areas thats down to personal taste,I didnt rate acrylic/plexiglass and found that glass supported or damped correctly or wood was better. But its easy to get both made and choose for yourself. The glass in my rack is supported at either end with a silicon gasket but also has a support which runs the centre of the shelf which has a silicon/nylon gasket as well.No real issues with the sound.

    Acrylic is a good idea!

It's an AV rack I'm considering replacing. Happy with the speaker stands. And to be honest, I'm MOre concerned about looks than ultimate performance.

An all wood solution is also possible, but I'll likely go for wooden frame, and something different for the shelves.
