I have been reading online that the Goldring cartridge can be a bit fussy in terms of what phono stage it is paired with. Have any members here experimented with the cartridge vs the various phono stages?
I would be particularly interested in hearing results from phono stages valued up around the £200 mark.
    Thank you!

If your any good with a soldering iron you could always make your own stage, plenty around. Then you can tweak accordingly!

Yes my friend, pretty nimble ;) In fact I have been chewing this idea over myself, even placing an ad. in the DIY section to get an idea of what other members may have used.

Theres plenty of designs, check out diyaudio. Ive built one based on rjm's vsps design but with quite a few tweaks. It sounds surprisingly good with dedcent components and should come in under the £100 mark including casings.

Thorsten says this little fella is susceptible, like all mm's to capacitive loading, as most phonostages will probably be different and not adjustable, results may well differ.
Personally I had one, its ok, perhaps a bit overhyped, but a good mm.

Is it absolutely neccessary to match the impedence of the cartridge to the phono amp?

Yes. When your talking about the kind of output you get from phono carts it is. In my experience at least.
