I've been using AVG for many years, and it's excellent. Since N*rt*n bought my favourite firewall (Sygate) and killed off the free personal version, I might buy AVG's firewall and spyware app (I've tried the spyware one before and it's very good too).

AVG for free, NOD32 if you want to pay. NOD32 is superb, very low on resources, and kills anything stone dead.

Actually I have AVG and it is good - have found even better product www.avast.com/

I had some compatibility issues with AVG.
Please note I am not connected to either company

Avast is also free and IMO excellent

All very well UNTIL ... you are bothered by the odd trojan that AVG misses.

Any incompatability issues to one side, it is useful to have more than one antivirus prog. (even if you pay for one of them:rolleyes: ).

F/i: one addition that was suggested to me by my lad (who works in IT at Loughborough Univ) is "CA Spyware", which seems to pick up 'oddities' that others miss and has proved its value with my machine 2-3 times.

Others which seem to have regular & many supporters are: "Kaspersky" + "PC Tools". (I too had "MacA" troubles when first using it).

    No probs, IF:( :

    try the 2 together 1st;

you recognise and allow one to dominate - often a prog will load quicker than the other thus blocking the action from the 2nd. Loading the 2nd afterwards manually kicks it in and it will work as expected.

I run "CA Spyware" and "Kaspersky" - the latter is blocked and has to be initiated 2nd, but it works fine.

I also run freebie "AdAware", which appears to work with anything under the sun:cool: (tho it has to be initiated manually).

[Confusing ain't it... Best of luck]

I downloaded Avira Antivir PE. No sooner had I downloaded it, than Norton went off like the clappers, ( it hadn't deleted anything this year, until I downloaded Antivir.) Then they both went off like the clappers. Finding things everywhere. Trouble was, Antivir wouldn't do anything with what it was supposed to have found, so every time I clicked to delete or quarantine something, up it popped again. I got so pissed off with it, I deleted Antivir. It's all quiet now.

My Dad (and sister i think work with it fine....so i don't know)

Sounds very much like a symptom of N****n AV.

In fcat i'm surprised you managed to delete it...normally next door to impossible (apparantly)

You could be right, but I've never had any problems with Norton, except paying the subs, until I downloaded Antivir. Seemed just like a couple of bitches fighting for attention. Anyway, I couldn't get Antivir to do anything with what it found, so I had to delete it before I went round the bend with all the sound effects going off.
