As is so often the case, the poor use of English gives the game away. This is a scam.

I'm with BTOpenworld and I got an email pretending to be from [email protected] insisting that I needed to open an attached .pif file. Again, the English was dodgy. Trouble is, I bet thousands fall for it and those who still aren't running anti-virus or a decent firewall will be sorry.

A firewall will still not protect a numptie who chooses to open crap like that. And if the virus is brand new and there has not been a chance for an update then that will not help either. Theres no replacement for good old fashioned common sense.

    That's because no-one uses Macs ;)

Macs - for people who don't know how a computer works
PCs - for people who do know how a computer works (or who can't afford a Mac and thus don't know how a computer works, but don't own a Mac).

Both platforms are as bad as each other in different ways IMHO. I despise both, but prefer PCs as Windows has better built in games. He he he. DLLs suck though, but they're no worse than Mac extensions...

Oh - and to dispel a modern myth - Macs DO crash. A lot.

Actually I work in IT and demand a Mac on my desk :D (Everybody thinks I'm mad, but I'm the only person who doesn't break out into a chorus of F*** F*** F*** every day) They're just so much more productive and enjoyable to use. Especially now they use a flavour of UNIX.

Can't argue with that. But they are somewhat easier to get going again after a catastrophic crash (i.e won't boot no way no how).

As an IT professional for the last 15 years, I can confidently state that they are all crap.

Same here. I must admit that I'm getting more and more jaded with the industry. Nothing is ever left alone long enough to settle in and become stable. Oh and by the time you've totally got to grips with a product the bastards come along with a new version and all the problems start all over again.

Time for a career change me thinks

Ah - well, you always need SOME people who know how to use a computer to provide support for Macs ;)

Personally, if it has a flavour of UNIX in it that puts me off more. The only out of date 70s technology I employ anywhere near me is my 8track cartridge deck. I *loathe* Unix - case sensitive commands, crappy X Windows manager - Sun SPARCs put me off UNIX for life back in 1993 and I've not seen anything (including Linux) that's convinced me to change my views.

The IT industry is spealt with a silent "SH" - everyone knows that. Sure you might still get OK pay but the whole thing sucks. If I could have my time again I'd have done English Lit at uni and sod getting the (computer) job at the end - where these chips have fallen is not where I'd expect; sure I'm in the one city I feel comfortable in but my career is stuck in a rut!

Hum, the problem I feel is microsoft, PC's are fine with the right operating system installed.

Yes Mac's do crash, I worked in a office with 3 pc's and 3 mac's they are all as bad as each other, now I reckon if the pc's had Linux installed on them its possible that they wouldn't be so bad, not saying Linux is any more stable than any other operating system, but because its not as huge as Microsoft, virus and junk like that are not writing for them thus do not effect it.

Of course the problem with Linix is its very techy, harder to setup and upgrade, not much hardware support, but its very much better than it was, at least there is a decent GUI now, too dam small for me to read.

Don't use linux as much as i'd like, I just don't have the time to research all the things that I will need to know to get it up and running, but I'm sure once done it will be productive than Windows (well it couldn't be much worse could it?).
