The Sonos is a strange beasty - looks like a lunch box!
Can't be too good audio-wise if it's only $499 and has an amplifier!

With the greatest respect, i have one of those B&O systems with the pencil speakers and the "daft multichangers".

There is nothing daft about the multichanger, it works brilliantly, CD's can be named and it never fails to impress visitors, especially when set on "random"!

The radio is sensitive, good quality and the newer ones have RDS.

I will stick my neck out and say you won't find anything better looking and as to sound quality........well........my experiences with it are very positive - no, the speakers don't have the bass of the Beolab 5's and it isn't as good as my non-B&O "reference" system in my listening room but the speakers certainly aren't bass-light, and i have heard things on albums in the midrange and treble through them that i have never heard before throught the many pairs of speakers i have owned.

Yes, your friend can, of course, find better sound quality for the same money, but considering the whole sound/ease of use/ease of setup/looks package, the B&O setup does very well IMHO.

What about a B+O system? They sound okay but they look a million dollars! Should be exactly what he is looking for.

What about the Resolution Audio OPus 21 route - with the matching amp. Small, great sounding (the cdp, for sure - never heard the amp though) and probably within budget - leaving a little for a pair of decent, discreet speakers. OK, it's not a multiplayer, but I should think there's be enough left over for a Squeezebox...??
