It's Friday afternoon, I'm playing 5-a-side after work - and probably have a pint afterwards.

A new Michell Orbe/Tecnoarm/Lyra Dorian is sat where my LP12/Akito/Goldring elite was sat and I really hate to say it but I actually think I'm HAPPY with my hifi.

The Orbe is fantastic, I'm amazed at the extra detail coming out and also the fact everything is still so musical.

The LP12 is sat gathering dust until I decide/can be botherred to sell it.

Nothing more than that - oh and I'm bored at work (which is why this thread is here).

The weekend is here! Should be a good one too. A few beers tonight at home. Then off to trade in my old Yamaha AV receiver/a pair of Mission m30s for a new NAD C521BEE amp tomorrow. Then a BBQ round a mate's house and copious amounts of cold beer! 30 mins to go till I finish work for the day too!

I've got an Orbe'd Gyro, with Roksan Artemiz and Shiraz. Am thinking about a Lyra to replace the Shiraz soon. brain says titan, wallet says dorian. :)

am curious about how the dorian sounds.

If you're into tweaking at all, there's a freebie tweak you can try.

    KennyK,

I'm very happy with the Dorian but I'm sure if I had the money I'd be after a Titan - I really like these carts big time.

May be the Helikon is a nice in between ?

it's about the same price as the shiraz I suppose, too.

I love my gyro/orbe. great decks. I've not heard many other decks, and the only one I remember the sound of was an LP12 prior to being serviced and that particular one was excruciating to hear. the only other good deck I've heard was my friend's Roksan Xerxes/Artemiz/Shiraz/Artaxerxes etc. I'll admit that I bought the gyro on looks alone. the only way I'd change it is for a Simon Yorke, and that's as likely to happen as a titan and a titan mono. :)

if you fancy trying the armboard isolation tweak, I'd be interested to read your findings too.

the Orbe looks amazingly simple when you put the thing together and the tecnoarm, while being considerably cheaper, is in my opinion far superior to the Akito.

Most of my kit is Linn so this isn't me doing a bit of LP12 bashing and I have great respect for the LP12/Akito but in my mind for similar money the Orbe/technoarm is superior in every possible way.

And Mr Cat ... I apologise for being happy and content with my system (for now) - but it has to happen sometime, doesn't it ?

I'm sure sometime in the future I'll start finding problems - I think it's the hifi law.

You've clearly misunderstood my post. I think the Orbe is a great deck. I think the Akito is not a particularly good arm. No bad vibes.

    Me, I don't like the Orbe:D
But I was perfectly happy when I had an Akito on my old Linn TT (what was it called? not Basik, not LP12 but the other one).. But then I knew no better then! I had a B&O MMC 1 on it, FFS!

So much depends on arm, cartridge & set-up.
