Been doing a lot of soldering lately , and it's got me thinking .

    Hardwiring ic's , anyone tried this ? .

I'm thinking the connections are the weak point on ic's , so
what if they were bypassed would it be an improvement ?

It would certainly be a pain in the neck when you come to move everything. Unless you bolted it all together like a 90's midi system.

If you really want to go to that kind of trouble then it's probably better to hardwire a cable from your CDP with a female connector and hardwire a cable from your amplifier with a male connector. Then you only have 1 connector inline, rather than the 2 with conventional IC's.

IMO you are better to spend the time adjusting the acoustics of your listening area than hacking about with your beloved equipment every time you want to move something or upgrade.

Its been tried .....too much trouble for me ....but people have used those hermaphradite battery connectors.

Its not some thing I'd suggest as it limits your options too much IMO.

I remember seeing and hearing a home built CD Player/ pre power amp set up where the entire unit including power input and speakers were all hard wired. The guy involved was a retired electronics development engineer with loads of time on his hands.
The principle on which he worked was - no mechanical connections = better sound! If he wanted to change any part it was quick enough for him to unsolder and resolder.
I remember a huge glowing valve amp and an awsome sound.
Not the conveniance most of us require though.

Maybe a halfway measure , ie hard wire ic's into the amp
therefore leaving the amp with flying leads .

50% less connections , but would it be worth it ? .

I may get bored over christmass and give it a go .

I thought about soldering the tone arm wires directly into the phono amp.
